"Right now, [Carmelo Anthony] might be the best player in the game, if you look at their record and the stats that he's putting up and all that kind of stuff," [Rick] Carlisle told reporters.

His stats aren't even that good. He's shooting 45% of the field and has 2.0 assists a game.

There was 5 minutes to go. They decided to call TO after seeing what the defense was going to do against them.

Call timeout, call a play that gets 5-7 yards and also call the 4th down play that will get the rest.

If there were 90 seconds left, then yeah, it's bad

Iowa had literally about 2% chance of picking that first down up. They are so terrible.

His stats, in this snippet of a table from his basketball-reference page, look pretty good to me:

I dont think this really makes it clear for me. As soon as the coach throws the flag after a TD, either coach, it is a 15 yard penalty, because that play is not reviewable. At what point is it ALSO a "non-review penalty?" Is it right away, or only after the review guy decides that the guy who threw the flag expects to benefit from the replay?

HOLY what-the-what UVA. Probably the worst timeout usage I've ever seen.

UVA vs Virginia Tech, 14-14 game, 1:20 left in the game. V Tech has the ball 3rd and 7 around the UVA 12 yard line with the clock running. UVA has 2 timeouts and saves them both.

Clock runs down to 40 seconds... V tech runs a play to center the ball between the hash marks. Clock keeps running. No timeouts from UVA. Clock runs down to :04 when V tech calls timeout.

UVA uses both timeouts to ice the kicker. He still drains the 29-yarder right down the middle as time expires.

What. The. ****.

Been trying to get some love for Mike London all season. He is the worst game coach I have ever seen in my life, but he exceeded any of the idiotic things he has done in the past today.

thinking back to the comedy of errors on Thursday, i think the Schwartz challenge isn't nearly as bad as his decision to kick the FG on 3rd down. at least you can say his emotions got in the way on the challenge play. the 3rd down FG kick was actually a calculated strategy decision.

also, when was the last time a team kicked the FG on 3rd and had something go wrong and were actually able to try again on 4th?

Hey it's not like a 2-yard gain on a running play would have made any difference in the kick. Oh wait...

Also gotta love how Kubiak not only plays for the 51-yarder, but runs it to the left hashmark because apparently that's where the kicker likes it. Wide left by a few inches obviously.

In 2000. Vikings vs Packers, then Mitch Berger threw an interception anyway. Cost the Vikings HFA and probably a birth in the SB.

I remember it happened in a Cincy/UConn 09 game, that's the only time I can ever recall seeing it happen

it happened in a browns steelers playoff game in like 02. browns blocked it but since the ball didnt cross the los, the steelers were allowed to kick again on 4th.

down 3-0 at home, Florida State punts on 4th and 1 from midfield. Commentator says it's the right decision, defense is the strength of his team. Punt is downed at the 20

The wording in the rules says they can't review "any ruling that goes against a team that commits a foul that delays the next step". Since the ruling on the field was a TD for Houston, that ruling (TD for Houston) went "against" Detroit, so they can't review the ruling after Detroit commits the penalty.

How that rule would work in a scenario where, say, the offense gets a touchdown but was trying to slide at the one, would probably be a judgment call for the officials...

Either Simms was wrong when he said that, or Kubiak is ******ed, or both.

They had 3rd and 14 at the DET 31. I believe at the start of the play they were on the right hashmark, at least the play by play said the 2nd down play was a run off right tackle. Anyway 3rd down they run Foster to the left, lose 2 yards. Simms says Graham must like it on left hashmark. Fine, all possible at this point.

However, later in the OT, they complete the pass down to the DET 14 to the right side, and on 1st down kick a FG from the right hashmark. Obviously if the kicker liked it on the left side, you'd think they'd run to the left to set it up.

So I think the run to Foster was just the play they thought would work best and the kicker didn't have anything to do with it

Lane Kiffin has the ball 1st and goal at the 4 yard line, down 9, 6:30 remaining in the game.

4 minutes and 1 timeout later, turnover on downs.
