Either way, I'm pumped up.

He's ready...and it's not so much a league as much as it is a training camp, that leads up to league play, the following year.

If any parents have any advice or input, let me know.

Cheers.

i believe the advice you need is that your kid is 2 1/2 years old and has plenty of time to play soccer. lol at lying about his age to get him in a league early.

trying to wrap my head around a sports league for kids under 3. has one ever just dropped a dump on the field?

I've heard it's similar to a kids playgroup; a good chance to meet and play with other kids in the same age group, run around and enjoy the sun. The game itself is secondary, at that age.

Just want to say that tennis is pretty brutal amongst teens. SO MUCH CHEATING. It's just a way of life in middle school / high school tennis. When I was in high school I once had an opposing coach request that I be suspended because I was hitting kids at the net with shots. I told the coach it was a perfectly legal play and not my fault the kid can't handle it.

I was playing counties in doubles vs a brothers team, one a senior and one a junior. There was an important deuce point and my shot was clearly in but the other team called it out. I looked at my dad and brother and they told me it was in. I go to my partner and tell him we are going to beam the 13 year old on every return this game. I nailed him twice, partner hit him once and the love-40 point the kid dropped to the ground and his parent started complaining from the sideline and I told him how he raised two great ****ing cheaters.

that story makes you look like an asshat. was that intentional?
The Kids of Sporting Events Quote

like im all for spiking on opponents but letting what could have been a misread lead to intentionally embarrassing a 17yr old based on the read of your family, who were certainly further away and likely to take your side on anything close, is....well yeah you were an asshat. hope you grew out of that

Please, that wasn't an ******* move. It was clearly in, my dad and brother were right on the line and gave me the in hand signal, I knew it was in, my partner knew it was in. You can tell when your shot is clearly in. This wasn't a misread by the opponents. If you never played tennis growing up then you wouldn't understand the rampant cheating on line calls. And hitting a kid is fair play with a tennis ball, it's part of the game, deal with it.

You get a wide variety of ref quality in the kid leagues.

In my daughter's school league, there was one ref who only knew hand signals, #14 and 15 on this chart: http://www.sonic.net/drturner/WebTur...es/volley2.gif

Would use the #14 signal almost no matter what the call was. It's supposed to signal the ball is out. But he would use the signal even if the ball was tipped or if the team hit the ball 4 times. He had to be corrected by the line judges several times, because he just simply didn't know what the proper call was.

He would demand complete quiet before the serve. One of the rules of volleyball is that the server can't serve the ball until the ref gives the signal to serve (#15). This ref would not give the #15 signal until the crowd was completely quiet.

Keep in mind that in most club games, there are multiple games going on at once, so there is always a bunch of noise. But not at this school game. Because there was only one game, he would demand quiet.

He also made a couple of really bad calls. Well, allegedly. I don't know the rules well enough to know if his call was correct, but everyone sitting around me said his explanation of one call (call overturned because you're not allowed to break the wrist on a spike) was completely wrong. Not nearly as bad as allowing a run on a force out play, but still bad.

+1 to hs tennis kids being awful line judges for their own matches because they can. I would look forward to going to see my friend's matches because he would give one free one to his opponent's integrity and then just start verbally assaulting him. It was strangely entertaining.

Holy hell at 2.5yo soccer. You need a special dispensation to get a four year and in a league here.

maybe it was just my experience but i really think there were more kids (myself included) who called way too many balls in that were actually out because they were not completely 100% sure, esp on the baseline when the angle isn't great if you are behind it or like a lob when you were at the net or a deep serve

there were some notorious cheaters but they get a reputation very fast. i always thought it was impressive how many kids *don't* cheat and were more than honest. brats who threw their rackets all the time were abundant but i do not think there were a lot of blatant cheaters at all.

When I was in high school, the coach at another school would tell his guys to hit the other player if they had the chance. After drilling the guy at the net in doubles, he yelled out, "Nice stick, Ron!"

That became a running joke on my team whenever we hit another player.

My Alabama high school did NOT look favorably upon male tennis team members. Stuck with me to the point where I actually find it odd that people are "outing" themselves as such ITT

In South America, pregnant mothers begin bouncing soccer balls off their bellies during the 2nd trimester. USA still way behind the curve as a soccer nation.

We all can't be as advanced as Alabama culturally.

Tennis is a lot of fun plus I guarantee I'll be playing it for about 40 more years than you'll be playing football or baseball

At my high school, we questioned your sexuality if you played tennis

Not that there's anything wrong with that
