What am I underestimating how many creepers there are here or something? Don't quite understand SYF's warning.

How many of you guys that think SYF's warning is overboard are fathers? Do y'all not think about this stuff?

Just a quick for instance: Greear pisses a lot of people off. He calls people all sorts of disparaging names all of the time. There are a lot of lonely losers on this website that could decide to hold a grudge against Greear and go from there.

Like I said - I don't have kids yet but I have started to think about this stuff. FB is one thing where I can limit the people that get to see something, but on here if someone googles "greear" then BOOM pics of his kids show up.

Yeah maybe I'm being paranoid but 2p2 is not a place I'll be posting pics of children (especially OTHERS' kids).

AngerPush, That will change when you have kids. I swore I would not put pics of my son on FB or 2p2 and of course I couldn't help it. I'm careful with what I upload of course but I'm not sure there is much to worry about. Is someone really gonna kidnap an internet poster's kid because he called them a Cleveland Slappy or something? Isn't most child abuse/harrassment/pet-0 stuff done by a close friend or member of your family?

TO be clear, I'm not going to murder el rata. At least not for anything to date. I edited out a picture I had posted not because 2,1 (which no, you shouldn't do in a kid thread - if I post a pic of me riding a horse then 2,1 is totally appropriate). I edited it out because it had too much identifying info in it including the telephone number and address of the dojo.

I've posted pictures of my kids on this and other sites. I don't think it appreciably increases the chances of Bad Things happening to them, or I wouldn't do it.

getting back on topic,

Brag. My son joined his first AAU baseball team last year. Brand new team put together with a coach who had little experience. They participated in 6 tournaments last year and summer and fall leauge. They won zero tournament games and only 3 leauge games. Combo of a few kids who where obviously forced to play when they did not want to, coach learning to Handle the kids, and just general lack of fundementals.

After the season we decided as a team to rent time in an indoor space for the winter 3x a week for practice. This weekend we got to learn the success of the kids/coaches dedication.

The first tournament of the season that included last year's state champion and state runner up. My sons team faced the state Champs, the runner ups, and 5 other teams. They went undefeated, winning by an average margin of 6.5 runs, as they destroyed their way to winning the tournament.

So Yeah, it was ****ing awesome
/brag

All: Please don't make syf comment a focal point on what is a very positive thread. Father's will use their own discretion as they seem fit.

And congrats HawkFan; I strongly believe playing competitive sports brings so many positive qualities in a person that aren't just directly related to sports, and this will be just one of many.

G10/sports parents: how did you raise the subject of sports with your kids? Did you just sign them up? How did they show interest in baseball, soccer, etc?

Not really sure why people are ridiculing my post for suggesting people be cautious when posting personal information about their children (or other people's children) on a public forum.

Anyway, I don't have children so I'll show myself out.

I've got very young kids (so maybe a parent with older kids can answer from a different angle): my son loves sports because I love sports, and we surround him with a lot of sports and interactive games and make it fun! I mean, he still loves his ipad and his TV shows (bubble guppies ftw), but he also loves watching golf with me.
We encourage him all the time and make sure he's always being challenged but at the same time always enjoying himself and we really put emphasis on picking yourself up, and trying again when he misses - because everyone misses, so don't get upset - just come back, practice and try again. Very generic stuff but it works, so far.

Eta: when he misses a few times and I can see he's getting down on himself, I'll step up and miss even worse - just so he knows it's okay.
(I think it's effective and believe the more intense training should come after he builds a passion and respect for sports and not to destroy it before it can even develop)

I think if you simply play the sport with your kids there's an extremely high likely hood that they will like it and want to participate in it. I think it's that easy.
