Well, season is over. I have about 5 days or so before I have to decide if im going to do fall ball or not, I'll have to start rounding up a team. I was almost a lock to do it about a month ago, but my kids behavior at games has me reconsidering. Might just wait until next spring before they play in a game again. Either way were going to do BP 2-3 times a week in the back yard.

Overall it was a fun experience, but slightly more stressful than what I thought it would be for tee-ball. Kids misbehaving, parents calling/texting me all the time with common sense questions. I had a parent send me 3 texts and call me 3 times just to give me updates on if they would be on time for the game or 5 mins late lol.

I have one kid who talked to me almost every inning this year about how he couldn't wait for the game to get over so he could eat a hot dog. I bought him 2 hot dogs after the game today and he came and gave me a hug lol. Pictures finally came in today.

Those t-ball pics bring back so many memories. I swore I would never coach my own kid, but about 8 years ago during my son's first t-ball season the coach's kid decided he didn't want to play anymore so the kid and the coach quit. I ended up taking over and never looked back. I knew a lot about baseball, but very little about how to coach baseball and explain it in a way that kids could understand. I approached it the same way I approached poker, I learned everything I could from anyone that would give me information. By 8u we were dabbling in some travel ball and by 9u we were hardcore into travel ball from then on.

For you guys that are just getting into youth baseball with your kids, enjoy it. You will blink and it will be over. I can remember my kid catching a ball for a force out at first and standing there holding the ball as the other runners kept running and scoring. Instead of jumping up and down that we caught a ball in the air at 5u t-ball, I was yelling for him to pay attention. I can remember him making a triple play where he was playing pitcher and caught a pop up in the air towards 3rd. He caught it, tagged a runner, and tagged a base before we could even yell instructions. Honestly, it seems like yesterday. Now he is 13 and I will be coaching him for the final time this weekend at our state tournament. I can't believe it is over, but it is time for me to learn to be a dad/spectator and he needs a year of coaching by non-parents before he starts playing high school ball.

For those of you that coach, coaching is hard. It is harder than any of the parents ever realize. I put my heart and soul into it. Not just for my kid, but for nine other kids. Some of the parents realize it, most don't, but the kids do and that is all that really matters. Three of my players have already made their high school team for next year. Another has tryouts in a month and he will make it easily. The other six are entering into 8th grade but they will easily make it and two of those will start Varsity as 9th graders. For me, that is the reward. I get to watch kids that I coached, three of which were on that original 5 year old tball team, play high school baseball for the next 5 years. So when the league asks for volunteer coaches at your local league, jump in with both feet. It is hard, but it is worth it.

good stuff razor

had our league semis and finals today
won 10-0 in semis, mercy rule

team we faced in final was 13-2-1, we were 11-1 in regular season. had my ace and #2 lined up to pitch the final, there is a 3 inning max.

top of the 4th we score 5 runs to go up 7-1 and i figure it's coasting time. wrong. my #2 almost has a nervous breakdown because the mound sucks (no mound, and super sandy, with a hole in front of the rubber). he gets the hook after 8 straight balls and 2 tantrums about the mound (full foot stomp and two hands in the air). go to a kid who threw 10 pitches in relief in game 1 - he gets the hook almost immediately too cause he needs a map to find the strike zone.

they score the maximum allowed runs in one inning (6) and we are tied at 7. we are then tied at 8 after 5 innings. there is no maximum # of runs you can score in the sixth inning, which is good, because we hammered the ball to the tune of a ten (10) spot and ended up winning 18-10. ended up using 5 pitchers to get 9 outs

shakin hands

Had our first practice for fall ball on Tuesday. We have another today. I think we're going to go every TUE/THR until the season starts on the 26th I believe. Quite a few 3 year olds on this team. It's going to take a lot of work to get these kids hitting like I did my spring batch (We return 4 of 10 players from our spring team)

The way me and the other coach are doing this, is im head coach for spring, he assists, then in the fall we switch. I believe I mentioned that arrangement earlier, not 100% sure though.

Took a lot of tongue biting to make it through the first practice. Idk if I'm cut out to be an assistant lol. Biggest thing for me will always be repetition. Each kid got 20+ swings every practice for the spring. At the practice on Tuesday each kid for to hit the ball one time then run the bases, which resulted in 1 swing for Blake, and 2 for Cadence.

I went and had a beer with him Tuesday night, and I think what's going to happen is were going to take them in groups of 4 with us to try to get more swings, we will see how it goes I guess. I like the cool he's real laid back and cool. I think I'll be able to coach with him in the next few years without issue.

Snagged Cadence a Tigers outfit for practice. Can't wait to get on the field later and coach em up!

It is football season here. Unfortunately, we are also doing the tryout/workout scene for baseball for next season. It is extremely difficult on my son to do both. He plays QB and it always takes a period of adjustment coming out of baseball, but so far so good. He is at an extremely competitive school for QB's and he is the 8th grade starter at the moment. He seems to be distancing himself but that can all change at anytime. Last year was the first time in 8 years that the starting QB at the high school didn't go on to play D1. They have a Jr and Soph. competing this year and both have D1 offers. Someone is going to get a hell of a transfer soon, imo. If my son can keep developing he fits the same mold of the QB's that have had success at his school such as Tyler Wilson. They were baseball players that were converted to QB's in Jr High.

Probably the most embarrassed I've ever been as a parent today. Their mom can't make the game, due to starting her 19th new job in the last 2 years. The only reason I went ahead with fall ball was I had her word that shed make it to every practice and every game to help when they were bad, since I'm coaching and can't always get right to them when they need to be told to chill.

Anyways, stuff is fine through one inning. Cadence then pulls her routine where she's just going to lay in the dirt and randomly throw dirt at people. I send her to the dugout to sit for the last 2 innings. As I'm pitching to our team on the top of the 2nd, I see her walk out of the dugout and into the parking lot, so I have to leave the other coach hanging to do all the work while I go chase after her.

In the T3 I hear a few parents telling both cadence and blake to stop, as they are having a dirt throwing fight with each other. They then start throwing dirt at a few of the parents that are asking them to stop, where I immediately jump up, grab them both, one in each arm and carry them to the car and leave. Had to ask a parent from the stands to help finish coaching the game.

Can't even really tell what kind of mood I'm in. I'm incredibly mad. A little sad. Feel a bit of failure I guess.

Honestly considering telling the other coach I'm done with the rest of the season. I can't have my kids throwing dirt at people.

Sucks, because Blake had done a 180 on his behavior from spring season to fall season before today.

that does suck though g10. dont be a quitter though, otherwise your kids will think they can just throw dirt and quit their whole lives

Don't even want to troll, sorry g10. Every parent will have that embarrassment/failure feeling but failure happens when you quit and I know that ain't gonna happen. Try to shake it off and get back out there, the coach/kids need you. Gl man

G10 you need to start implementing my 'actions have consequences' system AKA not letting the inmates run the asylum AKA parenting.

You're obv way behind already, but its not too late!
