Yesterday was a day that I had dreamed about since first finding out that I was going to be a dad, opening day as the coach of my kids baseball team. An exhausting and incredible experience at the same time. Kids crying, kids losing their glove, needing to go to the bathroom mid at bat, just real life stuff in general going down on the tee-ball diamonds these days.

Some of the 2p2 population, albeit a really small portion, has began to mate, or will be in the near future. I feel like a thread to discuss all things kids sports would be a great idea. Everything from bragging/venting about your kids performance, practice advice, how to deal with annoying/stupid parents, this can be a catch all thread. It shouldn't be limited to only your offspring either. If you coach your niece or nephew, or just volunteer to coach with no relationship to them prior, that's awesome too.

I think we can come up with a great bit of information to improve our kids performance individually, team performance, all while making it more fun at the same time.

Personally, I have a few years before I can start getting parents really mad when I start shifting in these little league games, but just thinking about educating a team about deeper thinking of the strategies of a game is something I am really excited about.

I look forward to reading the stories this thread will bring. Here's a few opening day pictures. God Bless.

Except I don't enjoy the thought of GREEAR being a real person.

You can move infielders forward and backward based on hitter strength but try and set up a shift and the whole crowd loses it's mind.

They think it's unsportsmanlike.

I feel like such an old. It's amazing how competitive youth sports are today. When I took my 6-year old to his first little league "skills evaluation," there were a ton of kids who could already hit REALLY well. There's a kid on my son's team who can hit homers (he hasn't in a game yet, but he hit a couple three-quarters of the way up a tall fence). Some of these kids are in organized baseball from the age of three.

At this age, the key is to just let them have fun. In baseball, in particular, it can get really overwhelming when they are trying to learn everything. Catching, hitting, and throwing are hard for a 6-year old to do. I've been trying to teach my son a little bit at a time.

I posted this in a different thread, but I had a really proud daddy moment on Friday. My son was one of those kids who could hit off a tee just fine, but looked pretty bad trying to hit a pitched ball (he can't catch well yet, either). He made some progress in the first three games - hit a pitched ball about half the time, needed the tee the other half. Cool by me. He didn't care.

But his last couple games, he really struggled. He looked terrible - he was swinging like he was trying to split a log. He let go of the bat about five times. He couldn't even hit off the tee for some reason. We had a long layoff because of spring break and rainouts, so we got a chance to practice at home. I found a couple things he could fix, plus the coach and I realized he might have been trying to run before he hit the ball. My boy and I worked on it and I felt he was ready for his first game since the end of the March (told you it was a long layoff). He hit well in his one team practice, but that was just in the cage.

First pitch on Friday, he ripped it up the middle. Swing looked amazing. Second AB, hit one hard to second. Third AB, hit one down the right field line. Never needed the tee. I was so proud of him. He was so happy. He even fielded a ball at third base (an accomplishment for that age). The coach couldn't believe it and was really happy for him. Got the game ball, made his day. I actually got a little teary-eyed after that first hit.

Another game today. Hopefully my boy remembers what we practiced and can have another good game. I don't care if he swings and misses and eventually needs the tee, as long as he swings well.

I just registered my son for a soccer league this year. He's 2.5 years old and I'll be coaching his team. The league starts in mid-May and I am way too excited.

Ya, people may want to be careful about posting too much information about their personal lives on here especially when it involves children. I've heard some crazy horror stories where people have gotten the information from social media sites because there were things like signs or licence plates visible and predators were able to track down where the kids would be at certain times and ****.

Thread idea is cool but just make sure you guys are careful with how much personal information you post.

This is really weird man. Anyways, to sign up at this league, you agree to allowing them to take pictures of the kids/games and post them to their little league website. A lot of the little leagues I know of do this.

lol SYF. You realize young G10 can pay a $0.99 Detroit thug to put the hit on any weirdo acquiring info on his offspring.

No kids in my life. Brother in law played semi-pro rugby in NZ, hopefully we can teach the niece how to Haka soon.
