I could nit BO it up and bring up Hal Sutton and numerous other players who pretty much had peaked by the time they were 21. Ben Crenshaw is another good example.

It's not uncommon for very good amateur players to start their career well and not win much after their early 20s.

That Tiger Woods guy also didn't develop much after his amateur career and success in his early 20s.

I think The Masters was the first golf a lot of people watched since last year's Masters. Or at least the PGA Championship. Like how many people even realize Spieth basically choked away a possible win in Houston just a week earlier by hitting terrible approach shots twice on 18? And he lost to a fat ugly guy who hits it long and straight.

Spieth should perform well at the RBC Heritage since it's probably the least distance-dependent course on Tour, and is entirely about ball-striking/shot-making and wedge play. Flat greens also won't make putting a variancefest. Though Spieth said he prefers hard fast undulating greens b/c he said he thinks he performs better (compared to his competitors) on them than on flat easy greens. So we'll see.

I've gotta call you out here. Early last year you were trying to tell the golf forum that Rory wasn't as good as we thought, by citing some overall stats, without accounting for the fact that when he puts 4 good rounds together he's basically winning any tourney.

I was trying to tell people like you that Rory isn't as good as Tiger was. He was coming off a dreadful 2013 campaign but that's not to say he isn't very good.

Yeah we shouldn't forget how up-in-the-air Rory's career seemed during/after that stretch. Obviously nothing is a given going forward either but I mean, that really goes without saying. Past majors aside, I think Rory wins more going forward anyways.

But...like I've said, I hope Spieth-Rory turns into a fantastic 15-20 year rivalry, hopefully with a Major duel or two.

Bullcrap. I have never said Rory was as good as Tiger. And I can't think of a single person in that forum who thought or said such, so you are full of it. We all know you are the protector of all things Tiger and get severely irrational at times. You were basically just coming out and telling people Rory was pretty overrated and cited his average stats, completely failing to realize he's more like Phil in that he's swingy as hell and you should account for that. You won't find a post of mine where I ever say Rory is as good as Tiger, so don't put words into my mouth.

It's just funny to hear you tell people they are forgetting how good Rory is when you basically made the same mistake last year.

If Rory could ever get consistently solid with his putter, he could easily have a 7+ win season. But he has far too many poor putting tournaments which basically put him out of reach from winning.

I wonder what the performance drop-off is for players who win the Masters and play the following week? With all the media ****storm, it has to be significant. Hell, Bubba damn near shut it down for a matter of months after winning his first in 2012

Pretty sure Spieth only played because they gave him an exemption a couple years back, he's probably still hungover (literally) from his celebration.

Last I checked they don't give jackets to RBC Heritage winners.

Given that, wouldn't be surprised if Rory is dominating.

Crenshaw was an exceptional amateur player. He won 3 NCAA titles and 13 major amateur events from his senior year of high school until his senior year of college. If that happened now he would be getting hyped to the level of Jordan Spieth.

Crenshaw did win 19 times on tour including the 2 Masters which is a successful career, but certainly not to the level of his amateur career.

If Jordan Spieth wins 16 more events in the next 24 years and only binks another Masters in 2031 it would be a disappointment from the expectations that were placed on him by many and certainly would not be getting better as he aged.
