I would love Johnny to hold a presser from the children's hospital next to the amputee kids his signature just paid for new prosthetics for. Would be the ultimate troll.

supposedly there are 'sources' who say he got paid, but that hasn't come out yet.

I'm looking forward to all the delicious drama. Grab your popcorn folks.

Potential favorite drama - if it becomes extremely obvious that JFF did indeed take cash for autographs but the TAMU posters continue to deny. Recently seen in the Cam Newton drama, where essentially everyone on 2p2 except for a handful of auburn posters agree that $cam got paid. Bonus points if those same TAMU posters made fun of the Auburn posters for being so biased.

LOL Texas A&M can profit off the kids signature but he can't. I bet the other Heisman winner got paid for his sig. That is a joke.

Seems so dumb college kids can't profit from their own fame via autographs and the like.

The value of Manziel is clear in the memorabilia and appearance market: Independent merchandiser Aggieland Outfitters recently auctioned off six helmets signed by Manziel and Texas A&M's other Heisman Trophy winner, John David Crow, for $81,000. Texas A&M's booster organization, the 12th Man Foundation, sold a table for six, where Manziel and Crow will sit at the team's Kickoff Dinner later this month, for $20,000.
What a ****in joke.

Best headline ESPN could come up with today is "Manziel friend halted free signings"

makes me feel pretty good going forward if that's the biggest hit headline they could come up with after looking into Rovell's bull**** some more.

RAIDS, everybody. lol @ u for thinking Te'o didn't generate money during the Heisman race leading up to the actual presentation. ESPN was obviously mad when Manziel won because they couldn't use the marketing of a Heisman winner being in the National Title game.

If they really didn't care (besides FW mentioning that recent story), they would not have even bothered to put Te'o in such a good, innocent light during the girlfriend scandal. Of course, for them, they don't stand to make much money off of him anymore. He isn't Tebow. And the gf story obviously hurts him a lot, so even if Te'o was ever good and Tebow was out of the league, it's harder to hype him up all the time.

You might be right that their interest in him is dying, but man, are they ever trying to taint JFF's reputation. Of course, they could have two motives, one being to get back at him for beating their other savior (Tebow is obviously the real savior), and the other for trying to gain viewership for A&M games.

GUS,

You are talking about the past. Past. The PAST.

ESPN could CARE LESS about the Heisman at this point. What they care about now is JFF pushing as close to the line as possible without disappearing in a sea of excess they can only chronicle in 15 years in a moderately watched 30 for 30. They want an entire year of JFF because that is >>> 0 JFF.

Obviously their interest, you moran, is to drum up as much CONTROVERSY as they can without driving the gravy train off the tracks completely.

Big thanks GusJohnson, I've wondered a while about why ESPN was riding the Te'o for Heisman bus so hard and this explanation is perfect.

I like all this Manziel drama because he's like the anti-Tebow.

I would so love it if its proven (or close to proven) that money changed hands but the NCAA somehow manages to not find any evidence JFF was aware of the arrangement.

Would it be a violation if they could only prove his boy got paid?

As far as I can tell only parents accepting money (Cecil Newton rule) is punishable right now. There isn't a provision for "managers" or whatnot b/c I doubt the NCAA ever thought a player would have one.

i suppose it depends. if he has a great season + combine teams will obv be more likely to look past his spectacular immaturity. if he has anything short of that combined with his baggage i'd be surprised if he's taken before the 4th round

The only way this can end is Manziel scoring the game winning TD to beat Bama, grabbing one of those goofy ass ESPN signs from the crowd, running around with it and popping off DX "suck its" on the sideline for the entire world to see.
