All the more surprising that she didn't know his height. Maybe he has really bad posture?

So, what's the theory behind these rumors, exactly? Try to date him while simultaneously filing rape charges against him and demonstrating his semen inside you? Kids sure are into multitasking these days.

DNA story doesn't really seem that shocking, since I think it's fair to guess that of all possible situations, the most likely is one where both parties admit to having had sex and there's a question of if it was consensual. I mean it confirms that Winston was actually involved, but I think we basically knew that all ready.

Apparently there is a rape kit as she went straight to the hospital. Do not know if there were injuries yet.

Apparently she immediately reported the rape and identified Winston as the perp. At which point the detective told her not to press charges because people in town sure do love the Seminoles and do you know what you are going to put everyone through. Further, the police told the FSU fixer attorney about the incident and nobody did anything.
I read somewhere (an FSU board so fwiw) that the allegation was made like in January, back before Winston was even named the starter or indeed had even taken his first snap in an actual game. If that is true it seems like a strange thing for the cop to have said. I don't think Tallahassee PD has any qualms at all about arresting someone from FSU (they came by the Criminoles nickname honestly). If true it was a really really stupid thing for the cop to have said and he should be fired imo whether or not Winston is guilty here. His job is to collect facts and investigate, not intimidate accusers into not pressing charges.

I had not heard the part about FSU's attorney knowing about the accusations, but given that this investigation has apparently been going on for some time and Winston has obv been starting since the beginning of the season I don't find it all that surprising or shocking if true. I would think that Jimbo isn't enough of a noob to keep running him out there game after game if he actually believed there was merit to the allegations.

Also pulled this from an FSU board, girl on the left is supposedly the accuser, girl on the right is the roommate/possible Winston witness if rumors are true

From the family of the victim's statement:

Quote:
We requested assistance from an attorney friend to interact with law enforcement on the victim’s behalf. When the attorney contacted Detective (Scott) Angulo immediately after Winston was identified, Detective Angulo told the attorney that Tallahassee was a big football town and the victim needs to think long and hard before proceeding against him because she will be raked over the coals and her life will be made miserable.
College sports and the culture surrounding it are seriously the WOAT.

Keep in mind that while the bolded isn't something a cop should say, it's not untrue and would be decent advice coming from anybody else. (and it's also not "telling her not to press charges")

Yeah, that not being untrue is the saddest part. It's why no cop wants to arrest someone like Winston in a town like Tallahassee.

I think we tend to overestimate things like this. Maybe there are people within the department who care more about their hometown football team than their own careers, but I would wager that this is the exception rather than the rule. Hell, we just had a cop down here arrest ANOTHER cop for DUI when he could have easily let the drunk cop off/followed her home (he actually did follow her home but arrested her anyway).

Cops are going to get hate from the general population no matter what they do, headline-generating arrests are usually +EV for them from a career standpoint.

Plus, again, if it is true that this was first reported in January when Winston was still redshirted it isn't nearly as big a story as it is now, which is what makes me question whether to cop actually said it.

about the only thing that the college football culture gets right on cases like this is how people are portrayed. winston doesn't need to be viewed as a criminal yet, and she doesn't need to be viewed as a victim yet. Not until further evidence is found out/presented.

Besides that, the college football culture about bringing accusations towards players is grueling and pretty ridiculous, as HS and others have stated before this.

THE TALLAHASSEE PD APPEARS TO BE A PARAGON OF SOUTHERN LAW ENFORCEMENT. Since now, 11 months after the case was first reported, it's being confirmed that DNA tests have linked Jameis Winston to the complainant in the ongoing investigaton/cluster**** over a sexual assault complaint involving the FSU quarterback. A DNA test does not mean charges are going to be filed, or that they won't: It just puts him at the scene, and establishes material evidence that some kind of sexual encounter (consensual or not) did take place.

If you wonder when the TPD is going to stop looking bad, consider that the DA in the case was made aware of everything you currently know about the case about three days before the story broke, and eleven months after the complaint was filed. Consider that the DA does not get along with the police department, and was not supported by them in the last election, and was thrown into their incompetence at the last second when TPD threw the case upstairs at the last minute once the press started filing records requests. Consider that the DA for Leon County has zero incentive--whether Winston is charged or not-- to not help out every last bit of incompetence demonstrated by the Tallahassee police department, and make them look as bad as possible. Consider that the Tallahassee Police Department doesn't need much help doing that, and according to the victim's family, may have threatened the complainant by mentioning Winston's status as a star football player in a football-mad town. (Allegations denied by TPD last night.) Consider that no one's really sure whether the victim wanted the case to continue earlier this year, including the police and the DA.

There may be a miserable story to be written here about what may or may not have happened to a young woman. There is also definitely a story about a city's law enforcement community eating itself in a fight over grudges, incompetence, and power.

Yea, but he was the number 2 prospect coming out of high school, at the most important position in the most important sport at one of the biggest schools in the country. He was a HUGE recruit for FSU, and was a star before he left high school. I mean anybody who casually follows a team knows the top few recruits a team gets, and getting the #2 prospect at the most important position, is just such a big deal.

Also he was playing on the baseball team. The notion that he wasn't famous at the time doesn't hold water at all. It's football in the Southeast. There's 8th graders that are famous.
