Yes because of all the **** talking. If Gehrig didn't make posts everyday about how awesome the Sox were and how it was such a lock they'd make the playoffs I promise you the hate would've been less. Of course we'd still troll, because any team that collapses like that deserves some backlash, but it wouldn't be with the same zeal. It would be like the Braves threads.

I actually was hoping that Boston would make the playoffs, so that they could have a temporary reprieve and then just get completely eviscerated in three games. The way it turned out certainly brings a smile to my face, though.

There are lots of posterboys of fail in MLB imo. The Cubs and Mets are far, far worse. All in all, Sox fans are pretty content overall these days. Ask fans of those teams how happy they are.

The power of the purse is still king in MLB, as long as the Red Sox have it they will be just fine.
