Ha I bet Mystik Dan at the last second on a lark. I did it on the "mystical angle" on the heels of Mage last year, in which a psychic type I met on line picked Mage (meaning "magic") in her first ever Derby bet. Anyway it barely covered a bunch of exotics we were pooling. Oh well, you win some you lose some. I waxed last night at Louisville Caesars about a possible dead heat in the Derby, with my Derby chip card guard and Churchill Downs scratch pad. Almost. That's only my second Derby winner ever, I think.

Grats on the win. Fun race, those two in the middle ran him down but ran out time.

Secretariat wins by twenty lengths. Literally.

Damned impressive for a horse that's been dead for 35 years. Literally.

Wow no love or interest for the Preakness on here. This lady that picked the Derby winner long shot Mage last year in her first ever horse bet, this year her Derby pick Just a Touch finished dead last. That's so classic I played her pick for the Preakness: Seize the Grey. Got 13/1. Cha-ching.

Fun race in a little mud! 2570 owners of the winner!

My dogs watched it like someone with Alzheimer's. They enjoyed the replay as much as the live showing--apparently had no idea it was the same race.

gonna make a wimpy bet to show today on the Belmont Stakes (which is being run at Saratoga due to construction at Belmont) on the the morning line favorite - Sierra Leone

he's never finished worse than 2nd - he lost by a nose in the Derby - he always tries hard - and his connections upgraded to one of the top jocks in the country

he's a closer who comes running late

with all of the soft money who usually love the shots I believe the show prices on low odds horses will be better than average - especially since there is no possible Triple Crown winner to attract attention

I'm spreading $20W $50P $50S on Mindfarme (7/2) and Antiquarian (12-1). Both trained by Todd Pletcher.

Quotes by Todd Pletcher

Quote:
Mindframe, the unbeaten but untested colt, could be forward breaking from post 10 under Irad Ortiz Jr. Mindframe, trained by four-time Belmont Stakes winner Todd Pletcher, has been too fast for his previous foes, but he has yet to meet this quality of competition.

“I think from a talent perspective he has enough talent to compete with this field, but he doesn’t have the foundation and experience that most of the ones in here do,” Pletcher said.
Quote:
Pletcher also sends out Antiquarian and Protective in this spot. Antiquarian is coming off a victory in the Grade 3 Peter Pan, a race in which he stalked the pace three wide and wore down The Wine Steward to win by three-quarters of a length. Pletcher’s four previous Belmont wins have come with horses who ran in either the Kentucky Derby or Kentucky Oaks.

“The Peter Pan was a breakthrough, now we need another step forward, which I think the mile and a quarter will give him a chance to do,” Pletcher said. “He’s had a good month since the Peter Pan, seems like he’s sharp. His energy level is good, all the things you’d hope for.”
Mindfarme coming out of the 10 hole is not ideal, but he doesn’t know how to lose yet, all-be-it 2 wins against lesser competition.

Antiquarian (my long shot) just seems to be on the right trajectory to hit the board. Hopefully no worse than 2nd.

Because I'm doing a $4 Exacta Box with Sierra Leone (9/5), Mindfarme (7/2), Antiquarian (12-1) and The Wine Steward (15-1). Most likely a punt, but I hate money.

Obviously fading Mystic Dan (5-1) and Seize the Grey (8-1), so if you want free money, you should work them into your lineup.

wouldve liked sierra leone at the traditional 1.5mi belmont stakes distance, but mile and quarter at speed favoring toga puts me in cowboycold's camp with 5&10

Dang. Should've taken Donoch in my exacta instead of Wine Steward. Not one thing I read or talking head gave that horse a chance. Cooda wooda shooda don't Cash no tickets.

Book hasn't resolved bets yet, but place and show on Mindfarme not likely to cover the investment.

Edit: Good news is I chickened out an only did a $2 exacta box. After the dust settled, looks like an $11 win! Vegas Baby!

I see multiple horse racing threads when I search in the SE Forum.

Please let me know which 2 exact threads you want merged.

Just realised it's in a different subforum so if they can't be merged dw about it, not much traffic in either thread anyway.

flavien prat is a great jockey but that was a s**tty a** ride he gave sierre leone in that race. He should have saved as much ground as possible after breaking slowly but instead he went 700-wide around the entire track. and this caused him to get intentionally lugged into by loltyler gafflione's horse turning for home and lose action. he only gets beat 1.5 lengths in the end. If he saves any ground at all, he wins.

also one more rant - this is a fake belmont stakes at 1 1/4 miles and they should cancel the triple crown until Belmont Park re-opens in a couple of years. Saratoga already has a 1 1/4 mile race for 3 year olds. Saturday's race should have been the Travers instead of running it (again) in August.
