Unfortunately I haven't been to Rio. And after having been to the northeast (Jericoacoara) I can't see myself gong to any other part of Brazil when we do get a chance to a mini-vacation with in Brazil.

I'll be in RP for 9 days.

Dude all I can say is it’s the most gorgeous and fun and awesome big city in the world. You won’t regret it. At least have it on your list.

Boca pushing for forfeit in line with clear precedent. CONMEBOL suggesting game will take place outside the country.

seems hard to argued the game should be forfeited for something that happened outside the stadium and could have be solved by buying a decent bus with reinforced windows that could take a few stone throws iyam

lol at wanting a forfeit.

lol at this whole thing obv. Final has away goals as tie breaker now? Boca gets a clear advantage by having goals count twice in a neutral venue.

The only way to get fans to stop doing this stuff is penalties that are severe. Plus there is precedent. Boca literally forfeited in a nearly the exact same secenario 3 years ago.

Yes but one dude inside the stadium vs hundreds outside, both resulting in tear gassed players? Sure feels to me like you have to keep punishing teams severely until this nonsense stops. Forget the match, it’s super unsafe to players. Someone will die as a result eventually, be it a player or a fan who gets taken down by overzealous security at some point.

Plenty of people have died already. It’s not the far west but I would say you see at least one or two deaths per year in Argentina in football related incidents.
This is without taking into account the fact that barras bravas have relationships with politicians and drug cartels.
It’s a much bigger mess than some crazy dudes showing their passion for football in a violent manner.

In Chile they had to suspend the final game of the league season in 2015 because of fans violence in the streets and in the stadium.
The barra brava announced the day previous to the final that they wouldn’t allow ColoColo to celebrate a championship on their home turf so they rioted before the game and then invaded the pitch so the game couldn’t start.

This river boca thing is not a completely isolated incident in South America.
I’m pretty sure it has happened multiples times in other countries.

Yeah I mean I don’t see any solution other than things like, well sorry but you just lost the most important game in team history and your team lost important revenue and it’ll happen again if you don’t change.

Oh crap, I completely forgot la liguilla started today b/c I left Mexico for a bit. Luckily Pumas plays tomorrow. Tigres have won the last 3 aperturas, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

It’s a socio political problem , it’s not something Conmebol can solve by making some decisions over another.
River losing home advantage actually seems the fairer call given the incidents were outside the stadium. But lol at making it happen in Madrid.

Basically they know at a bare minimum it should be puertas cerradas but they want the revenue and safety so they had to move it off continent lol.

I had hoped they would play it in Santiago but they dont like us too much in Argentina so it was very unlikely that it would happen. I thought Asunción was the most likely venue.

That was the only venue I saw discussed in South America.

Chile, Uruguay or Brazil would have had massive complaints from the nationalist types.
Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia have an unpleasant playing conditions.
Asunción is fine but Paraguay is a rather small and poor country so maybe they cant make all the money they hoped for.
Lima was probably the best place that combined a market to fill the stadium, nice playing conditions and non dislike for the country.

Madrid has the downside that now some people are mad because they are claiming neocolonialism. I dont completely disagree with those sentiments but I think that opening southamerican club football to the world is not a bad thing. Its really one of the underated spectacles in world football and now we have a chance to put it right after the disaster that was the return leg.

The finalists apparently were Asunción, Miami, Qatar and Madrid.

Dunno I still think they should award it 0-3 and set a strong message.

Will people in Madrid care about this and fill the Bernabeu?

Are they going to scrap the away goals and make this a de facto one-off final?
