Mathews is inconsistent but looks pretty damn good most of the time. Fumbles can be a problem.
Gates is getting old and he hasn't been quite the same since he ****ed up his toe. He's still very good but he's no longer the "obviously great" TE he once was.
Meh.. Gates is still a pretty great target. I dunno how long he will be.
Mathews is totally replaceable. Half the starters in the league can do what he does. Terrible was probably hyperbole, sorry about that. He's average I guess.
this is about as good of a job as ever comes open in the nfl, they absolutely can get cowher, especially since they will be the los angeles chargers soon. also with AJ getting fired too someone (bill) could get personnel control. its an ideal situation for an elite coach. if gruden has an out in his espn contract hes an option too.
well they say bill cowher and marty are friends so think aj prolly had to go then and ny giants won today but he was rumored to holding out for that prize
I agree with the Rivers thing.. it's a great spot for a coach to end up because of that.
I really doubt Mathews is top 10 moving forward.. and even if he's borderline in the like.. 9-12 range.. then that moves him from average to slightly above average.
Meh, we'll see moving forward. In that offense he has a lot of openings. I disagree he looked phenomenal and think he is really replaceable. Lots could do what he does in my opinion.
Really hard to gauge something like this. I just think in a different offense he would look a lot worse.. and plenty of other backs would look just as good.
edit: The reason I've hedged a bit and changed my tone to where he may even be borderline 10th area is RB's are so hard to judge. Everyone else seems so high on him, it's possible I am a bit wrong.
Bill Cowher has been the ideal candidate for HC in San Diego since the hiring of Norv Turner. He's a master of the 3-4 defense, defensive minded HC, and let him have his choice of personnel to build his team... or let him hire someone as part of his staff to assist him as gm.
At this point the Chargers have been the best team in the NFL to not make the playoffs 2 years in a row. It's going to take some personnel changes, and wide sweeping overall philosophy changes. Bill Cowher can bring both of those. A toughness and nastyness to the defense that needs to reload on personnel. Let go of Quentin Jammer Let go of Steve Gregory Let go of all these clowns, and start holding onto players that actually deserve to stay and build on top of that.
