this is technically still a poker forum, right?
You left out a game or two, for example:

1986: lose on handball to Argentina.

Also you could view it as rungood that they were even playing in those games you mentioned. It's all a question of what your priors are.

At Euro 96 England were only legit good against Holland.
Since then we have only played legit good twice, against Germany 5 years later and then against Croatia in 2004.

It's been a long time since England fans have left a stadium thinking they were actually onto something.

+ b.s decision v. Germany in 2010 (the only competitive game they've lost by more than 1 goal in 11 years), toughest group in 2014 (which they were only in because Platini rigged the draw for France and probably would have qualified if they ref sent Godín off v. England).

England are good. Southgate sucks unfortunately but how many countries have a better front three than Alli, Kane, Sterling? Clear top 10 team.

Better against germany in the semi according to my unbiased thinking. But yea generally not many games to write home about; however a coinflip going the right way here or there potentially narrative changing.

I'm not at all convinced by Sterling. He only performs when surrounded by good players.
Suarez and Sturridge at plop
Eveyone else not in defence at Man City.
He's never played well for England. His only hope is Kane and Alli learn to involve him.

The one person I do hold some hope for is actually Southgate. I like the way he's handling things at the moment and I'm pretty optimistic about the next Euros

Sturridge is "good"? lol

Because Era Penal, that's why. For Holland anyway. I agree, Mehico better than LÖL Ingerlund and LÖL italy.

Sturridge ‘was’ good. You obviously have a short memory.

In 02 against Brazil I remember thinking “Why are England not trying to attack us when they are a man up and only losing by 1 goal” . So, lol England there.

If anyone wants England to last longer than Poland next summer (same round is a wash) then lmk. $50 max

Poland have the pot 1 edge.
11-17-2017 , 11:41 PM
Chile won two copa Américas and we basically looked good on one game which you all can guess which one it was.
Nobody looks good at the international level, Argentina never looked good in 2014. Portugal in 2016 only against Wales.
International football is about not doing stupid **** that makes you lose games , scoring a screamer and winning penalty shootouts. This isn't the Champions League where teams are legit good and pleasant to the eye.

In fairness it's pretty true what Val is saying. Whilst Spain looked like a GOAT team many times 2008-2012, the WC they won in the middle wasn't one of them. Even in 2012 they were poor in the semi, then the final was one of the greatest international finals ever played from them, probably second to Brazil 1970 or something. Look at Germany in the last WC final, pretty meh, as were Argentina, in the semi one of the GOAT performances, maybe the literal GOAT.

I'm gonna work on the OP for the final draw thread if nobody is on it already.

Lol, no. Colombia gifted us two goals within 10 minutes then there was no football for the rest of the game because the pitch was flooded.
We won two copa americas because we only conceded one goal in 6 knock out games( and that was an unlucky own goal) not because we played some fancy football.

I'd look good playing next to Suarez as well.

not even in love with the draw this time, tbh. I prefer randomness over a champions league approach, where we're likely to see pots 1 & 2 get through for all but maybe 1 of the groups.

^reminder that last world cup Costa Rica and Uruguay qualified from a group which had England (they never underperform though) & Italy in it
11-18-2017 , 03:05 PM
Pretty sure Uruguay would have been odds on to advance (as the big three teams as a collective would have been, with Costa Rica having a sub 5% chance).

If we had to guess a line for the pot 3 and 4 teams advancing it is probably like 4.5 out of the 16.

I recall laying Uruguay at 4/7, so ashley is correct

I recall having a DOQ bet with baids on England getting out the group.

England evens to get out of GS pre tournament or around it.

Laying Germany to get out the group really was something special

yeah that whole tournament was a nightmare for me. How the **** Brazil beat Colombia is a question that still wakes me up some nights in a cold sweat.
