FIFA World Cup 2018 Group B Thread: Portugal; Spain; Iran; Morocco.

Portugal

Possibly the most overrated team in the tournament - Portugal will do well to exit the group stages.

Star player: Cristiano Ronaldo

Spain

While not at the heights of their 2008-2012 EPO era, Spain still pose a serious threat of reaching the quarter finals before crashing out in hilarious fashion.

Star player: David De Gea

Iran

Team Melli put up a credible performance in Brazil 2014 - only losing 1-0 to Argentina due to a 91st minute Lionel Messi goal. Whether or not this was karma for Iran's role in murdering 85 people in an anti-semitic attack in Buenos Aires 20 years prior is up for discussion - what noone debates is that there's no player in Group B remotely as good as Lionel Messi - so Team Melli will hope to spring an upset and qualify for the last sixteen.

Star player: Reza "Gucci" Ghoochannejhad

Morocco

Noone is quite sure how - but a group of Frenchmen & Dutchmen didn't fancy trying to qualify from UEFA (smart move by the Dutch!) convinced FIFA to let them have a go at qualifying from Africa. The plan worked and then some - The Lions of the Atlas qualified unbeaten, without conceding a goal!.

Star player: Medhi Benatia

3 European teams?

What on earth are you on about? Seeing as you have UK in your name, I'd assume you're from the UK and therefore would know what countries are on our own continent and which ones aren't.

I've never heard of Harit - curious he chose to represent Morocco, do you think he'd be good enough to play for France in the next World Cup?

Probably not. I think he's talented enough that he would've been in the mix eventually, but France are just loaded.

4 of the 14 who played for France in the 98 World Cup final weren't born in France.

The stereotypical English lion, Terry Butcher, was born in Singapore.
John Barnes in Jamaica.

Sounds like you've got some issues.

Desailly & Vieira moved to France aged four and eight respectively. That's two players, not three. Guadeloupe (Thuram) and New Caledonia (Karembeu) are part of France.

But you're taking this way too seriously & I don't want to derail the thread

I'm indifferent as to the joke in the OP about Morocco, but is was clearly explained, the first post is all kinds of stupid.

Thanks. Implying I'm racist for stating someone who was born in France, and has lived in France ever since, is French, is dubious. Can we all just to agree to talk about football? I'm also happy for people to question my selection of hot chicks, as long as they're willing to provide pictorial evidence

Re: FIFA World Cup 2018 Group B Thread - Three European Teams In One Group!

There's also a very good reason why a lot of Moroccans were born outside of Morocco.
Many were forced to flee the country in the 1960s due to human rights abuse under Hassan II. It didn't stop their children still being Moroccan even though they were born elsewhere.

But hey, if that spoils your joke, chuckle on.

Re: FIFA World Cup 2018 Group B Thread - Three European Teams In One Group!

I am terribly sorry for referring a team where 17/23 players were born in Europe as "European". Please accept my most humble and sincere apology for this deeply offensive joke. I am hoping to undergo treatment for racism addiction and hope to come out the other side a better person.

The biggest joke in OP is actually thinking Portugal is overrated.
