Them not having anything of Blatter probably means he was shrewd enough not to have his bribery payments funneled through US banks. If that is indeed the case, then even if some of those in jail would be willing to rat him out to shorten their own sentences, I don't think that would give US authorities any grounds to go after Blatter. It would probably have to come from Swiss officials, no?

Assuming they have nothing on Blatter given the people already arrested is very premature.

Based on absolutely zero legal knowledge I would assume Bladder being ordered to remain in Switzerland assumes the DOJ at least has something on him that could turn into a big thing with cooperation

I'm sure the U.S. would be more than happy to cut a deal with one of those arrested if they gave information that enables a Swiss court to prosecute Bladder.

BREAKING: UEFA calls for postponement of FIFA presidential election & may boycott congress.
UEFA has been talking like this for a while, right? What we (likely) need UEFA to do is say "eff it, our teams are boycotting the WC while Blatter is in charge of FIFA". UEFA has a ton of theoretical power but they need to use it.

That would be amazing. Taking my kids to Canada for the Women's World Cup. It would be a great trip to Australia for them then Junior in HS and Sophmore in College then.

Anyone in the US who like soccer should look at tickets to the Womens World Cup. Prices are very reasonable. They were running buy 3 get 1 free deals last month.

Why would they want to? They might lose their jobs in the process of that. Things are not that easy when it involves multiple countries and hierarchies and so forth. The NFL is centrally run, profit-oriented corporation operating in a single country, that makes oversight a lot easier. FIFA and other governing bodies would benefit from such a structure too but those who have something to lose in that process (and thats the majority of countries, or their delegates) will do all they can to prevent that.

Yes. Because if I meant American Football I would definitely have the USA as #1 since they are the only country to play it and would not put them on the same level of Brazil, Germany etc

Why are you here again?

I can forgive USA for not letting Panama beat them to eliminate Mexico from the World cup for this.

I was making a joke, the joke being that a true American would be offended by being called a top soccering nation

Happy to see the former brazilian confederation president Jose Maria Marin getting arrested. He's the worst. Currupt and incredibly dumb. All of Conmebol needs major change.

srs q for val: how is the Chilean FA in all of this.?

Obviously the CFB (Confederacao de Futebol Brasileiro - Brazilian Football Confederation) is at the heart of this - as has been notorious in Brazil all of the time. The Havelanche-Teixeira-Marin line with close ties originally to the dictatorship and now to the 'centre'-right parties have been almost untouchable.

Tostao would write about this regularly in the Folha de Sao Paulo in an only semi-veiled way - but nothing ever happens/ed.
