Take away from that table is that David Ferrer is the GOAT who never won a grand slam.

I don't understand how a good metric could possibly have Becker and Murray above Sampras.

Sampras crap on clay, tanked his Elo on a yearly basis?

So?
Murray and Becker are no better on clay, except maybe Murray but barely.
Than you compare the rest and it is an easy Sampras pick.

Raz gave the reasons as to why his ELO is low. As per carns statement.

The mere fact it has them above Sampras shows how flawed it is, along with not having Fed top. Shows just how flawed it is.

Ah sorry lol

But still , even so, they all 3 bad on clay anyway.
So I guess the Elo mistake must come from somewhere else tho ?

Tbh Pete's winrate is just lower for whatever reason in general. The man got himself psyched for the big moments.

I think you're being very harsh on Murray, He's been in 4 FO SF and finished runner. So has consistency, also got to the semi this year while being injured. I'd be confident in saying murray is way better than Pete on clay. Purely by watching Murray at the bigger clay events and FO and his record compared with Petes plus this:-

Sampras's only real weakness was on clay courts, where the slow surface tempered his natural attacking serve-and-volley game. His best performance at the French Open came in 1996, when he lost a semifinal match to the eventual winner, Yevgeny Kafelnikov. Despite his limited success at Roland Garros, Sampras did win some significant matches on clay. He won a 1992 clay court tournament in Kitzbühel, defeating Alberto Mancini in the final. He won the prestigious Italian Open in 1994, defeating Boris Becker in the final, and two singles matches in the 1995 Davis Cup final against Russians Andrei Chesnokov and Yevgeny Kafelnikov in Moscow. Sampras also won a 1998 clay court tournament in Atlanta, defeating Jason Stoltenberg in the final.

Yeah maybe a bit.
Seem in the last 2 years he made progress.
Before, if my memory is correct, he had never won a title on clay .
So ok he has time to get better and all but i mean his got a long way to go imo ...
3-8 in grand slam for Murray while Sampras is 14-4 ....
I mean really ?

He has won clay titles fwiw, think he won his first one last year before reaching the final.

Anyway, yeh it shows just how flawed that type of ranking thing is.

It's also stupidly difficult to compare eras/generations. Serve and Volley style of player in this era simply wouldn't win as many.

Fire off some temp bans for everyone that voted for Djoke. They need a timeout to reflect on their life choices

Nadal straight sets FO, Fed straight sets Wimbledon and they met each other in an amazing AO final. The best of all time still rocking it.

i'm a die hard fed fan and have been forever, but are 3 ways in which he is not the greatest of all time:

1. he does not hold a golden slam
2. he does not hold a calendar year grand slam, and we don't know what laver would have accomplished title-wise in those lost 5 years, and
3. he does not have the greatest single year of all time.

but i can't think of any other tennis metric that doesn't have him as the goat.

Nadal just won the French without facing a tie-break and leads head-to-head 9-3 in Grand Slams. Federer is even dodging the French Open just to avoid losing to Nadal more.
