It's football not basketball but solid rides for college kids.

If the super elite programs go down, it will be solely attributable to the FBI investigation. In both football and basketball, the NCAA gores its sacred cows only as a very last resort. The NCAA's preferred targets are the second tier programs that imitate the tactics of the sacred cows.

They should have waited until the payment was made then, unless they already had enough on them.

Might as well be, if/when he gets fired he'll be untouchable.

I don't really follow KU recruiting, but I'd be more surprised than not if KU isn't somehow involved in this.

Any chance Bruce Pearl gets fired too?

Can someone explain the Ed Obannon suit in layman's terms? He won the suit, so that means NCAA players should be getting paid, yes?

It sounds like Chuck Person was going rogue and making some side money by sending athletes to a financial advisor. Pearl could be safe, but his past may hurt him in this situation.

I believe they ended up settling for like 10K a person and continue doing business as usual. Pretty similar to the NFL concussion settlements.

I think that the bolded is probably correct as a matter of fact, but I wouldn't rule out a complete cleaning of the Aegean stables (Person, Pearl, and AD Jay Jacobs).

Most AU fans are hoping that Person and Jacobs go down, but not Pearl. I'm not holding my breath for that outcome. Many will conclude that if Jacobs was negligent, Pearl must have been negligent as well. Therefore, they both have to stay, or they both have to go. This logic ignores that: (i) Jacobs pushed Chuck Person on Pearl as an assistant, and (ii) Jacobs is a incompetent, good ole boy **** up who should have been fired years ago.

Yeah it could be as simple as, "If Bruce Pearl didn't know what was going on, he should have known," or something along those lines.

I think this makes Pitino pretty damn radioactive, about as radioactive as Art Briles.

I don't think that it is impossible for him to coach again, but he would have to start over at a place like Fresno State (or somewhere even lower down the food chain). At his age, I doubt he has the energy for that path.

That's one way of putting it.

Another way it is that EA decided to kill the series because that was preferable to sharing the profits they had been raking in with the likenesses of athletes they were using without permission.

(I miss the series too )

Maybe he'll wind up at a small high school in the Midwest like Nick Nolte.

Or a small high school in Indiana like Gene Hackman.

Nothing less than Pitino giving a Nick Nolte type speech will do.

UMass seems like a natural fit.

Will people serve time for this, and if so how long?

I assume actual time served will end up being <2 years for most/all people.

There's no question about it. The schools and coaches 100% know and yes it goes all the way down to AAU/high school.
