I don't think so, but passing on second and third down instead of running time off the clock did.

Carr said it changed their mindset. They were definitely running out the clock

+1000 to all the Staley comments.

Not surprising from a coach who earlier in the season:
* was throwing fades on 1st down vs KC in week 3 with 34 seconds left from the 4 yard line in a 24-24 game (kc had one timeout left)
* called a running play with ekeler from the 3 yard line vs cle in w5 with 1:36 while down 42-41 (cle was out of timeouts). Ekeler knew not to run in, but the Cle defense picked him up and carried him into the endzone.

week 1 I thought, probably the worst thing he did all year. I still am Happy he is the coach.

The interview on the Cleveland play he thought if he was picked up and pulled in it was not a td and was going to get clarification on the rule.

How about just kneeling, so there’s no risk of that (or a fumble) happening? Or asking for a clarification of a rule before you try it.

His explanation makes him sound even stupider.

Again, there was 1:38 left on a stopped clock, they were on the 3 yard line, score was 41-42, and cle was out of timeouts.

That was a horrible horrible spike. Just throw a fade or something. The one goddam time a fade makes sense and they spike it.

You do not give up a down when there's > 30 seconds on the clock on 1st and goal.

They also should've called a fade on every other down, instead of the weird **** they did which seemed like they thought the end zone was only like 10 feet deep

Sure. Or we can cue every muffed handoff exchange between a qb and rb? Bad stuff can happen on every play, but the odds/probability of them happening are very different.

If you still don’t believe me, go do a logic tree with probabilities of what can happen in each scenario (scenario a - kneel and kick the fg as time expires, scenario b - score and play defense) and figure it out yourself why it’s horrible.

Of course. I just don't care too much about the mistakes Staley made this year as he basically flipped the standard thought of the NFL on its head this year and it has been fun too watch. A couple were fairly bad but I will take it over Anthony ****ing I didn't know you can use all 4 downs for offensive plays Lynn. The fade call vs KC was pretty awful though. The Browns one I am not losing any sleep over

If we're not being results-oriented, I'd argue that sending your star QB back into the game with 10 minutes left and a 30-point lead is pretty damn questionable.
But calling for him to run a roll-out/naked bootleg on the very 1st play is not questionable at all: it's just really just stupid.

BB likely knows something about the chances of making it in that game vs the entire universe of football.

4th and 1 on the 50? Too risky.

Halfback dive from the wildcat on your own 30? Great risk/reward there.
