The Chiefs won a game against Denver like that. Denver was up by 1 late and had a long breakaway on a pass play. If the receiver just went down they could have used almost all the time on the clock. Instead he scored to go up by 8, Chiefs came back and tied it and won in OT. I remember being happy when the receiver scored vs. getting tackled at the 10.

Denver scored with 3 minutes, Chiefs were out of TOs.
Going down in bounds at the 1 runs it down to 2:20 (if the receiver is really smart he runs laterally for a while)
1st down runs it to 2 minute warning
2nd down (waste some time) runs it to 1:15
3rd down (waste some time) runs it to :30
4th down, kick FG
Squib kickoff, Alex Smith gets it back with 20-ish seconds, down 4 with no TOs. Has to be much better winning %.
Three minutes makes it closer. But I bet they run it in just the same if there's 1:45 left, which would be criminal.
