Vrabel is obviously a S-tier coach. That was godlike.

Up 7 attempting a 2PC to go up 9?

If both teams are 50/50 to get it and 100% to make the EP I am kicking the EP. Because, you don't give the opposition perfect information on what they need. Obviously the difference is negligible.

But, I think going for 2 makes a lot of sense in this exact spot because if the Titans score a TD they will have driven the length of the field in a hurry up offense and the defense will be more tired than usual.

If that was intentional it was very smart. But, why not just have the guy he sent in go offsides and make contact with the offensive lineman to prevent the Texans from having a freeroll? And why did the refs stop the play? I wish Romeo would have had the balls to decline it.

12 men on the field automatically stops the play, presumably for protecting the QB reasons

The clock will start running again once the ball is set if the penalty is encroachment. The clock stops for too many men on the field.

Vrabel definitely knew exactly what he was doing. You could tell my his cheeky responses when asked about it in the presser haha.

Only problem with that twitter comment is

"Vrabel knew they would score"

That is objectively false.

He knew they would (or would incredibly likely) be able to CONVERT 2nd and 1. So making sure they converted instantly was the play, as opposed to a LoS stuff or anything similar.

The odds of them scoring a TD were far lower, and even if they would convert, he would be better off just letting them score, or at least convert to the point where the next snap would be 1st and goal as opposed to another regulation 1st and 10 from the 23 or similar.

2nd and 1 there is basically the prime freeplay that 2+2 was on about years ago as one of the few leaks that NE had, as Brady would frequently just QB sneak on 2nd and inches and convert even in places like midfield, and waste essentially a free down as TB12 is obv a pro on the sneak and would convert two other goes at X and inches high 90's % of the time.

To add, the Herndon post covers it well, I was speaking more about the Warren Sharp post, which doesn't really address it.

Down 28-3 with about 6 mins left in 3rd attempts a 58 yd FG on 4th & 10 from Cardinals 40.

Houston were up 1 on the TEN 25, they're forcing Tennessee to need to score a TD unless there's very bad kickering, and even then they still need to go 45 yards or whatever they need to get into FG range

edit - maybe not 45 given they'd get it at the spot of the kickering

As a packers fan I'd be so pissed if DAL figured out how to get rid of fatmike within a year after it took GB 12 years to do so.

If this happens I'm going to buy up as many fake shares of the packers as I can afford and sell them for a $1 to Jerry Jones.

That’s the genius of it. Vrabel selected a penalty that had far less risk of incurring an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty which would have increased the TD equity for Hou significantly.

Dude could have easily pretended he ****ed up and saved that move for his future playbook. But he's so proud of himself he had to take the mask off and grin ear to ear to show off how smart he is. Now his opponents will know to decline. Yuge punt.

EDIT: Yeah I know half the dumbass coaches in the NFL still won't figure out that they should decline that penalty.
