Good question. I assume the standard is pub level? The average 35k population Town could probably cobble together 19 amateur teams but the bottom ones would be literal hungover pub teams no subs type outfits.

Of course they would, they were in the 60's etc, in fact even up until the 90's the gap wasn't really there. Only since the mid 90's onwards has it truly opened up. Serie A money was probably the start of the gap.
But the competition just doesn't have the history, prestige etc in Europe and I have no idea if it would even be possible for that to ever change. A lot of fans would have to think carefully before remembering if they even won it. Like United in 2008. It's like remembering if you won the Uefa Super Cup.
More money maybe. Can't see another answer. I. E. More prize money etc but also money in the game taking away Europe's powerbase. Chinese league becoming the new Europe in 10 years time. Who knows. Tbh Europe's disdain for the competition pre dates the big financial /quality gap. They didn't care in the 60's-70's either and even boycotted it a lot or just refused to play. So that makes me doubt if it ever has a chance.
