Tbh I've never seen him play outside of some Euro minutes but my feeling is that I like it, he's probably at the upper end of the quality we can get while still young enough to improve. I've read that Rose might want to have us play with a midfield diamond which would presumably suit Malen, playing up top together with Haaland, while he seems versatile enough to play on the wing in a 433/4231 if needed.

hoping to become? They were doing that 10 years ago already

It's a bit like getting freerolled, they have to hope their players turn out good but not too good else they're gone

Counterpoint. Seemingly we are finally giving our young players lengthy contracts so we can bink a Harry Kane situation and I love that.

PSG end game seems to be buy all the players so they win the UCL by default.

We could also end up getting purchased by some oligark or a state. Should drag us up to relevance like it has the others.

Athletic reporting that the £160m 'agreement' for Kane is bullshit. Levy bemused because no deal has been reached, city say it's far more than they'd pay. Who'd have thought the Sun could make **** up?

Did anybody actually fall for that "they spit it at their wedding to a SUN reporter" story?

Insane money and we should snap call. In the current market, £160m buys you a whole team.
Awks.

I thought they were more like Valencia, trying to be a destination for the rejects of Europe's elite.

Madrid are trying to join them in that pond. Milan is there too. They can all remember together when Ronaldo played for them.

I think most fans under estimate how much of a failure Barkley has been vs his ceiling as a youngster. Lots of young players get dubbed "the next..." but Barkley was incredible as a teenager. Bellingham is prob the best comparison I can think of in the current environment. Maybe LO will know more as he's the Everton fan but he could have been a generational talent.

It's prob best for his career to avoid all of the elite teams and play somewhere he's gonna get minutes. His last season was a serious drop off from the previous so maybe the money/hype is getting to him, can't imagine a worse environment for an inconsistent young player than Madrid tbh.

Arsenal should just hire the Leicester DOF Steve Walsh. I've been hoping United would snipe him at some point but obv Woody knows better. If the ownership can't/won't compete with the top 6 clubs around Europe they should be going the Dortmund/Leicester/Monaco route and targeting the best yooung players from around Europe. They have the financial power to outperform all of those clubs in the market so no reason they can't put together a really good exciting young team to compete. They don't have to only target players under 25 but Ducksauce is right that Willian was fairly spew esp with some of the young talent they have.

Didn't everton already poach Walsh and shitcan him after 1-2 seasons after some highly questionsble transfers?

Edit: yup, currently working for some MLS team. Arsenal are welcome to him.

Walsh got us Vardy, Mahrez and Kante. He left a while ago though.

Not sure what happened at Everton, but his Wiki says,
Quote:
Everton had spent £150 million on new players over the summer but found themselves in danger of relegation and were eliminated from the UEFA Europa League.[7] In addition to the expensive players that Everton signed, Walsh also recommended Hull duo Andy Robertson and Harry Maguire for a combined £20 million and teenage Norwegian striker Erling Haaland for €4 million; Everton rejected the trio, whose values soared years later.
So seems the powers that be followed up on the wrong tips.

Looks like I had my timelines mixed up and was giving him credit for deals at Leicester he didn't make.

Can any Everton fans explain the transfer process under the current ownership? I know at Liverpool the scouting team and coaching staff both have the power to veto a transfer the other wants if they strongly disagree etc

It says he wanted players X/Y/Z but "Everton rejected" them. Who is being referenced by "Everton".

I thought it was an alt account of RITS or andre to make their PSG/Real back and forth seem bearable in comparison

I have a tough time believing that the scouting arm at LFC can veto a transfer Klopp wants.

Ok so Maddison is apparently very much on the cards, some (albeit dodgy) sources claim that personal terms have been agreed.

Maybe Tammy too? Not sure, but if we get those 2 in, I cant complain too much about our window.

If we sold AMN (15m), Nketiah (10-15) and Willock (20-25) plus offloaded Willian, after wages that would basically pay for Madison at 60.

All 3 are wanted around those prices, just have to get those deals done.

Would that really be good business though? You've already seen how good Willock is when he actually plays thanks to his loan. He's 21 and surely Arsenal should be taking advantage of what he learned at Newcastle, not dumping him.
Yes, he played 29 games in 2019/20 for Arsenal, but only 8 of those were starts and he only ended up playing 838 minutes.

If he was a 21 year old Newcastle player and scored 8 goals in 14 games, you'd be trying to buy him.

I like Willock. I also think AMN is our best RB in the squad, he just has it in his mind that he wants to be a starting CM for a PL team. I just think Madisson is really good. Willock is the perfect bottom half attacking MF or really good for us coming off the bench if we need a goal. The kid has a lot of weaknesses but he has a great eye for goal.

If we can't sign someone at the level of Odegaard/Mads I'm perfectly fine giving Willock more minutes. He deserves them, and if we sell them I hope he makes us regret it and has a great career.
