Mesut LÖLzil retires from the national team.

Good riddance, imo. Confirms all the stereotypes of the ****hole he's from. And before I get crucified for racism by the usual suspects who won't do two seconds of googling, he is from a German ****hole, not a Turkish one.

In fact, it's him who plays the racism card in his statement, which is LÖL beyond belief. Yup, everyone hates you because of your Turkish ancestry, because of course that's the case.

It's not like it's a surprise that Grindel is an absolute stinking xenophobe and narcissist. People piling on Özil are conflating three things: a) the Erdogan photo, b) Özil's own performance and c) how the DFB reacted to it especially after the Russia disaster. The photo was terrible, Özil wasn't good, but c) is the absolute worst. They've been playing the Özil card from the moment Son tapped it in. That's cowardly at best and xenophobic at worst. In Bierhoff's case I suspect it's the former, Grindel absolutely the latter (or more precisely both).

Had they flat out not taken Özil and Gündogan because meeting dictators isn't compatible with DFB values- fine (if implausible). But when former national team players (one of whom went own to present a dictator with a shirt himself) xenophobically bash Özil, DFB officials needed to stake a stand. Instead, they relished it as someone to deflect the attention away from their own roles in this car crash of a tournament.

LÖLyalblue,

if Grindel is such a racist and xenophobe, why is Boateng receiving no hate? He's black even. Should rank higher on a xenophobe's hate scale, no?

People need to stop equating everything to an -ism. Except ******ism, maybe. Özil is a ******! Bierhoff is a wanker (like, that wasn't known before?).

I think bashing on Özil and Gündogan is fair for the ******ism they both apparently are suffering from. Bashing on Bierhoff for being a wanker who "stood behind" those two players when a decent to good WC was the most likely outcome, and who's now throwing one of them under the bus, is also more than fair. Wankers need to get bashed. And every racist is probably also a wanker. Not every wanker is a racist, though.

Sometimes a cigar wanker is just a cigar wanker.

Özil wasn't just bashed for his ******ism though, he was clearly also bashed for his turkishness. Or why do you think fellow ****** Loddar said something like "he clearly doesn't feel good in the DFB kit" after almost 100 caps and a decade of being one of Germany's best players? Or even bigger ****** Basler's slew of idiotic comments. And the DFB just accepted that.

I didn't know about Grindel's history as a right winger either before this whole ordeal either tbh, but it's well established.

Re: Boateng: He hasn't given any daylight (in b4 racist remark) and the political "debate" is obv much more about muslims than anything.

"Well established history as a right winger" LÖLWTF?

Dude's a member of CDU. Have we really reached a point where people who are members of centre-right parties are getting demonized for their "history as a right winger"?

When you bash a ****** for being ******ed enough to meet with a foreign dictator, then that's not racist. When you first back him up, and then throw him under the bus later, then you're most certainly a wanker, and you should get shat on viciously for being a wanker. Playing the racist card dilutes the actual bashing these wankers deserve.

Honest question, LÖLyal:
If, say, Toni Kroos (he kinda has the looks for it, imo) had publicly and for promotional purposes met with Weidel or Gauland before the tourney (two legitimately and democratically elected, German MoPs), do you think he would have travelled to Russia with the team? I don't think he would have. The outcry by the internet morality police (which is in full swing now to protect LÖLzil from the vile racism he's subjected to) would have been ten times worse than the outcry those two ******s received for meeting with an actual foreign dictator.

Yeah right wing within the party I should have said, though I don't think the difference is huge at that point.

I think they would've taken Kroos, yes. He's too important to the team. Obv Sandro Wagner gets the axe immediately. The Özil outcry was huge as well, for good reason.

özil taking the picture was dumb, but who cares? it seems like a lot of people that should know better and are in charge are using it to hide that the coach was a clown and a lot of the players are just nowhere near as good as they had been hyped to be. (and some people that don't know better just love a dumb narrative)

He only plays well against San Marino. In his absence, the national team will be better. No one questioned that he was playing crap at the World Cup. You have to go back to what it is all about: sport. And from a sporting point of view, Ozil hasn't lost his place in the national team for years.
