I watched the first half of GER v ITA and Italy's pressing was ridiculous. Did they keep the pace up?
Quite like this format of playing 12 down to 4 in group games. Every goal and every game matters

Both teams became tired in the 2nd half but probably moreso Germany who had not rotated at all in this squeezed together tournament.

Of course Italy had done just that but arguably that was what cost them against the Czech.

Until the very end where understandably, with both teams through with current scoreline, became passive, it was the best game that I watched this tournament.

More 50-50ish possession match pictures please!

Spain in the other end of the spectrum was able to start 11 new players in their last game which must benefit them against Italy who will also be without Berardi (who has been erratic) and Conti at RB (who has been great).

I didn't watch England's last game so not sure how much they have improved since the hopeless opening. They have started John Swift I notice which is what I wanted to happen and it's definitely a very talented team. Especially physically which is the advantage they must hope can be enough to get through, hopefully for them, a more tired, but also way better organized/tactically structured Germany team.

Portugal is the team that can feel hardest done by I think. All in all probably 2nd best performing team so far after Spain.

Yeah, Germany vs Italy was really good actually. I hope I can catch more of the remainder as it's probably better stuff than many games of the regular EURO's and WC's.

Hey guise. A couple of Q's, hoping someone can help a brother out.

I'm trying to schedule a two week -ish trip to Spain (Camp Nou / Catalonia basically) for September and would like the trip to cover at least two La Liga matchdays (out of which one'll be at home) and one CL matchday (which hopefully will be at home).

1) Can anyone hazard a wild guess on whether La Liga will be played on the weekend of 9 and 10 September or not? *

2) Is there any logic to deciding which teams begin their CL camapaign at home and which teams begin the campaign away? **

*
I'm 99% sure the answer is yes as regular international breaks pretty much never extend over two consecutive weekends. Plus EPL schedule is already out and 9 September is a scheduled matchday on the Foggy Albion.
UEFA WC qualifiers will be scattered from Thursday 31 August to Tuesday 5 September.
CONMEBOL WC qualifiers will be played on Thursday 31 August and on Tuesday 5 September.

**
First two CL groupstage matches are scheduled on 12–13 September and 26–27 September.
I took a look at previous years results but got confused and gave up; seemed random. Is it in fact random ie decided by the silly balls in a cup?
Out of 6 previous campaigns Barca specifically have began at home 5 times, though. Only in 2015-2016 they kicked things off away.

CL home and away won't be decided until groups finalised obviously and I doubt any team can promise they'll be home on certain dates months in advance.

After the draw representatives from each team meet and decide on the schedule for each group.

cheers, marty

It's this uncertainty that makes booking flights/accommodation a PITA.
And they both absolutely need to be booked in advance in this case (5+ people and not every one of us happy to sleep at the back of a random whorehouse).

Spanish FA are supposed to trot out a matchday schedule on 20 July.
CL groupstage draw'll be held as late as 24 August.

Sigh. Think our best bet is to book flights on 11 September and on 25 September.
That 2 week slot should include one CL match and two (or three depending on how the midweek schedule shapes up this year) La Liga matches. Slot should also enclose the week of La Mercè festival based on last year's schedule, which is definetely a bonus.
Worst case scenario is attending just 1 match and best case scenario up to 3 matches.

Interesting line-up. Gerhardt was rumoured to be out and probably Klünter in. Not surprising Philipp finally gets a start but I didn't expect Selke to make the cut then.

Well England were actually kind of on top somehow for the first 20 mins or so but then it increasingly became the stereotypical worst case "England" against very good opponents big tournament performance. Getting worse and worse as the game went on and the German shot tally skyrocketed, around 40 shots(!!!) I believe, culminating into pure hit and hope long-ball dumbness desperation in extra-time.

Unlike some of the Stuart Pearce teams in the past, this England u21 actually have some players to do better but I'm not sure if that makes what we saw better or worse.

I guess worse when it comes to this game, but hopefully better for the future.

A lot of good players. Here and in the age-group below that won the U20.

It's hard to see Germany overcome a much fresher Spain. They have a good squad but various players are wearing down while Spain has been rested and what could have been a tough game against Italy, instead turned into 11vs10.
