no transfers? yikes
There's a bit of a crisis affecting football clubs' incomes at the moment and we don't all have billionaire owners that can lend or invest money for transfers. We did sign Dale Stephens and a third choice keeper to replace Hendrick and Hart.
Yes, I'd have liked to have seen another signing or two for the first team squad, but with the money we have available it's difficult, if not impossible to sign players better than what we already have and we can't really afford to take risks on unproven and expensive prospects. We've had a lot of injuries to start the season and we can't afford to go out and buy £10-20m players to cover for those injuries, when everyone is fit the squad is more than capable of finishing mid-table. The situation with Ben Gibson and Joe Hart has probably made the board reluctant to spend money as well.
We can still sign players from the Championship for another couple of weeks, which is where we usually do our shopping, so I haven't given up hope of new players just yet.
We've signed 6 players for the academy, which has just been granted Category 1 status, so perhaps that is the strategy going forward in these uncertain times.
