Come on. This is some elitist bullshit setting the bar for "big" players to top3 in the world at the position or something. Partey is excellent. No teams will lure superstars to them unless they are top5 or have insane amounts of money. Liverpool will be back there in a few seasons.

Aouar and Partey are of higher quality than what Arsenal have been able to get in a long while (Auba excluded).

If you thought that by "big" names I meant Mbappe, Messi, Lewandowski and similar level players would be begging to go to Arsenal that's obviously not the case.

But Thomas Partey is undoubtedly a very big name. The main reason he isn't more widely rated as one of the best CMs (he's top 10-15 imo) is that he plays for Atletico and many don't follow them closely. He's very complete and versatile, he's an elite player. And Aouar is one of the hottest young names right now in European football.

The only "top" name Pool signed was VVD and probably Allisson. City only really Aguero, Silva and Yaya.
Look at Bayern, they got Lewandowski and Neuer on frees, but Gnabry, Davies etc were coached up.

The ceiling in Arsenal is that Arteta makes the players better, like the top teams do.

Guido Carrillo (£19.2m - record for us at the time)
Wesley Hoedt (£15m)
Soufine Boufal (£16m - record at the time)
Mario Lemina (£15.4m - Fulham have to buy for £8m if they stay up LOL)

We've also loaned away Mohamed Elyounoussi again to Celtic (£16.2m) and his contract runs out at the end of this season, so that's another for basically nothing.

This is basically the tail end of our second rebuild. We had our initial promotion squad (Lambert, Lallana, Shaw, Schneiderlin etc.) then the first rebuild (Mané, Wanyama, Virgil etc.).

Why am I boring you with this information? Firstly, it explains why we're so busto atm given we've had all these players on the books. Secondly, transfers are super ****ing high variance, particularly when you're in the ballpark of the £15-20m players, but even if you got substantially up beyond that. Whenever people say that teams are "crushing" the transfer market (like our first rebuild), good scouting probably has far less to do with it than just binking on multiple players with very limited information.
