If we or Barça or Real don't come knocking now there's a way he stays there one more year. I doubt Lyon will sell for the sake of selling, they know what they got and can handle this down year financially, plus their equity of getting CL money next year go way up with him.

James seems a bit spewish from Everton. They have Sigi/Bernard and should really be prioritising other areas.

Sigi sucks and is done. replacing him is good.

They're also signing Allan for €25m (same as what they're paying for James allegedly) which seems like a steal.

I disagree, their midfield is (was) poor. There's no doubt they have other weak areas as well, but midfield was a major weakness, they got completely run over so many times last season. Allan and James are both top players Ancelotti has used in the past with success, if he can make them work Everton will improve a lot.

In fact I think these signings are so good that it only makes sense that they both flop completely because that's usually what happens when Everton seem to be conducting shrewd business.

James isn't gonna help you when the midfield is getting overrun. He's basically diet Ozil.

Allan is good business at that price but again he's 29. Everton have been as Shrewd as Woodward in the market recently.

I think he is, he can play deeper and largely run the midfield which he did under Heynckes at Bayern for a while. He's not someone who is physically much of a presence in midfield such as Allan is, but he's going to help Everton a lot when they're on the ball and prevent that they just lose it immediately when the opponent is pressing, which is a major issue right now.

If you compare the heatmaps of James under Heynckes and Ozil in 15/16 it's clear how much deeper James operated (and that's for a team that dominates every time they played), which is due to his ability to dictate play deeper and generally progress the ball, where Ozil is more of a classic creative 10 who doesn't get the ball until it's further up the field. They obv have many similarities still, but I do think James is a more modern variant of the "classic 10".

I could see us selling Bellerin over AMN, but we absolutely shouldn't if they are similar fees. When Chilwell just went for 50m, we should squeeze way more than half of that out of PSG.

James played as an 8 for Bayern a fair amount and was actually pretty good.

I know we are desperate for cash, but selling Bellerin for 25 mill would be a mistake.
