Alonso might not be the best defender, but he is a consistent score points contributor.

I think it was Caley that first coined "False 3" to describe Alonso.

I only watched a handful of full Chelsea games last year but based on those and their new signings, do they not need a sturdy defender that can actually, you know, defend?

No idea. Just read an article from a usually well connected Schalke journo saying he didn't want to join Berlin but showed interest in the PL, though that much was clear weeks ago. So it does seem like he likely wasn't anyone's number one target.

It's somewhere between a 3 and 6 million loan fee plus obligation to buy for ~20 (all in euro) if Juve qualify for the CL. Would rather have the money now but whatever.

Anything he says has been said by someone before him. He's not the god you think he is.

He wasn’t the first to call Neuer a false 1 either.
