I just watched a Loyola Oregon State game from that season. Gathers was already out from the first (non-fatal) collapse, but they still ran like no one else.

Kimble had 50+ to lead loyola over OSU and Gary Payton who had like 49.

I'd love to see a team putting up 120 in NCAA basketball again, they were something else.

Just got done with the first one Kings Ransom.
Told the story of Wayne Gretzky getting traded to LA.

I'm not the biggest hockey fan in the world, but this completely sucked me in.
Great story telling, great insight into what everyone was thinking and did a good job of telling all sides of the story.

Good start, but it wasn't amazing. The gretzky trade was obv a bfd, but it wasn't that compelling of a story, imo. Documentary was well made though, I enjoyed the old footage of Gretzky's press conference immediately after the trade.

NHL Network had already done a similar documentary called "The Day That Changed Hockey." Obviously included same footage of the press conference, etc.

Need to see the ESPN one to determine if it's better or not.

I used to tape some of the LMU games when I could including the win over Michigan in the NCAA's. Think I erased over them at some point though.

Westhead's strategy isn't going to work every school but I think in smaller conferences and for teams/programs that have the type of roster that could pull it off I think it would be worth considering and I really wonder why more teams don't do it. Especially because it could be helpful for recruiting more talented players as well as getting fans in the seats at programs that otherwise don't generally draw as well.

Long Island University Blackbirds seemed to have a semi-similar team for a few years. In 96-97 they went 21-9 and led the nation in scoring but I think they were only around 90-95ppg (as opposed to 120+ like LMU). Some of their scores included 129-100, 120-92, 113-94, 127-77. The following year they won a game 179-62. Since then they have totally sucked and have had zero winning seasons and also play a more 'normal' game with 70-65 type scores all over the place.

I don't know if Loyola Marymount and Long Island U are the only two like this though. I want to say there was one more doing something kind of like this in the past 15 years.

Thought it was really well done. Was kind of hoping for more inside information than I got, especially on a topic I'm not totally up on. But I will probably watch this every week. It should be interesting to see how the different directors take the stories.

Then there are games from some teams the 1950's with final scores like 125-60. No shot clock or 3 point shot yet they could still score that many? (much less a couple of 120-115 type games from back then too)

Gretzky doc was good, if you're a hockey fan from the 80's/90's. I am, so I liked it.

great documentary. The Gretzky press conference footage was great. I was 7 when that happened so it was basically new to me. I guess the next closest thing will be when Labron leaves Cleveland next summer, except they haven't won four titles.

I liked the documentary, wasn't spectacular or anything but I give it a solid B.

I turned it off after about 10 minutes, any movie needs a good intro to suck people in and showing slow motion shots of Wayne Gretzky talking didn't cut it. He's probably the least important person of all in the whole situation anyways, players get traded all the time, the only thing that made the Gretzky trade more interesting than any other was the backlash in Canada, that's what should have been your hook, not Gretzky talking about how his dad told him about it.

The Gretzky trade is a pretty weird choice for leadoff. Hockey is pretty much 2nd tier on espn these days, you'd think they'dwant to start with something else.

That trade in retrospect was so unbelievably massive. That type of deal would never happen today. A team that had won 4 Cups in 5 years, with the best player in the league, trading him away for basically nothing to the worst team in the league. It makes sense it was the leadoff.

I'm not denying the size of the event, just saying that its an awkward choice to generate buzz for the series. I'd think that something like Bartman/Cubs would be a better fit because of the timing coinciding with the start of the baseball playoffs.
