What does everyone think about Lebetard/Simmons' take about race playing a big role in America's hate for them? I'm sorta meh, because who was the most hated college basketball team of that era? Not Georgetown, UNLV, or Michigan.

Was too young to follow CBB back then, but pretty sure that if it wasn't Gtown they were at least pretty far up the list.

Also, it was kind of absurd that Miami had defacto home field advantage nearly every Nat Championship game. How did it work back then such that the two best teams ended up in the Orange Bowl so often?

Yah you might be right. Having grown up in a place that was a huge rival of G'town in the 80's, I take my own hatred with a grain of salt.

The Orange Bowl was Big 8 (Present day Big XII North + OU and Okie State) Champ vs At-Large. Nebraska and OU were powerhouses in the 80s and often finished the regular season #1 or #2 and the Orange Bowl was pretty much free to get the best team not tied in to one of the other big bowls to play against them. Lucky for the Orange Bowl people Florida State, Notre Dame and Miami were all powerhouses of the time also and weren't locked into a bowl like the Big Ten/Pac-10 champs going to the Rose or the SEC champ going to the Sugar. All of those factors led to the Orange Bowl being the defacto national championship game so often before the alliance/coalition and then the BCS.

Wasn't John Thompson a known racist against whites? That's what I have always heard

I don't know how much of a factor it was but I think it would be pretty naive to say that it wasn't a factor at all.

So racist that he kept a white guy on his staff for years and years that he groomed to succeed him after he retired

I just got done watching the U doc, thought it sucked and wasnt very interesting compared to some of the other ones they've played so far.

Clearly, although I'm not sure what you're referring to here (which episode).

I wasn't referring to any episode specifically, people were comparing/contrasting Georgetown and other bball powerhouses of the time to Da U, and I just wanted a little clarification regarding Thompson. Just simple curiosity, nothing more

Rosenhaus grew up in Miani, went to the U and represents a ton of former Miami players. He built his entire agency by snapping up players from Miami.

Edgerrin James
Santanta Moss
Sinorice Moss
Winslow
Gore

Jon Beason
Phillip Buchanon

Didn't know this - if it was mentioned I missed it. I've seen him on other shows of this type before so didn't think there was a specific reason he was on this one.

Thompson was a firm believer that he should use his limited scholarships to help black kids get an education and better their situation. I will let others debate whether this is racist.

It's as racist as someone saying 'I'll donate this money to Charity X for doing work in the Philippines', i.e. not at all.

You wouldn't have to look too far to find many white contemporaries of Mr. Thompson that would vehemently deny this assertion.
