Not really. It's waaaay easier to throw a baseball than a football. For perspective, the longest a baseball has been thrown in ~446 feet, while the longest confirmed football throw is 89 yards (267 feet by Jeff George).

1982 tho...2013 sure...if say that number was accurate I wouldn't doubt it, but back then wouldn't you think that number <<<<<<50%...in 2013 when you account for better athletes + PEDs you can make an argument for 50%...If I had to take another player from 82 or around that time period to throw a name out there I'd think Dave Winfield could probably make that throw...a few others too, and no matter what the kid in me would still be impressed as **** if I got stand and watch.

Really? Isn't it like 305 down the lines? Maybe 315? I'm guessing almost every pitcher could do it, so that's half of MLB right there. Even if some can't, most catchers can I'd imagine (that's 8% of MLB roughly).

Wouldn't be surprised if about half the OFers can (that'd be about 10% of MLB).

A few SS's probably.

I'm pretty confident in my figure. Wish there was a way to actually bet it!

it's 314 down the line but you have to factor in the fence as well, which is about another 8 feet...so in reality you would have to throw it about 325 feet to clear the fence but w/ev...the point is he's throwing it over the fence, no bounces...I'll still buy 50% of OF/3B in today's game can do it...maybe, but I can't see anywhere close to 10% of Pitchers being able to do it...their just not built that way physically for the most part.

You're aware that a normal MLB pitcher can make a baseball leave their hand traveling 90+ mph, right? Which of the following do you think is true: outfielders/3B throw the ball significantly harder than pitchers but don't pitch for some unknown reason, or they have some special way to defy physics and make a ball that leaves their hand at the same speed/slower than a pitcher travel further?

Id say a majority of mlb 3b/ss/corner of can easily break 90 on a crow hop.

Dudd:

I wasn't thinking about the speed, more the strength it would take to heave it over the fence...Like for instance take a guy like Tim Lincecum whose gotta be 170lbs dripping wet at best...sure he can throw hard but can he throw far enough to clear 314...idk...interesting debate tho.

But the only thing that matters is how fast the ball leaves your hand, it's all physics from that point on. I mean, sure, there's the whole difference between pitching vs a crow hop and changing the arm release angle to maximize distance, but I'd be very confident that your average major league pitcher would have a well above average outfield arm (see Ankiel, Rick for example)

Apologies as I think I might be derailing this thread some and thinking maybe this debate should probably be it's own thread...I do want to throw one final point if I may...:

Rick Ankiel ok I'll give you for sure...holy ****

Nick Markakis...not sure...

On the surface it looks like he could do it but if that's the hardest he can throw he's still short hopping the Catcher...hmmm might need more research.

Still blows my mind that Ankiel prob has better accuracy from 275 feet than he does from 60 ft 6 in.

Did anyone catch that 30 for 30 short that was put up on Grantlland called Cutthroat? Good story but god damn when they showed the actual injury I was way more shook than I thought I would be. Gruesome stuff.

Tomorrow night is "Free Spirits" about the Spirits of St. Louis Spirit ABA team that still earns the owners almost $15M/yr, 37 years after they went defunct. Interesting story, but not sure how they'll get an hour out of it. Probably just a bunch of ABA flashbacks I guess.

Anyone watching this? Pretty interesting. John Spano basically scammed everyone into selling him the Islanders when he didn't have the money. Sent a check for $1,700 instead of $17,000,000 and said "Oopsie!" Almost got away with it too.

Forgot to watch it, will have to catch a replay, whenever that is, didn't find it with a quick google search. Did find that E from Entourage is the narrator, which hugely deceases my interest in watching, I hate that ****ing guy.

He's barely in it. He's smart enough to know Spano is the story. He just sits back and lets Spano make a fool of himself. It's not like the Raiders one w/ Ice Cube.

spano seemed like a very odd combination of genuine remorse for individuals that he hurt, and complete lack of remorse for defrauding organizations out of millions of dollars

I don't think it's odd at all. It would be odd if it were other way around.
