I never thought he was guilty. I think he got a screwed by the system, and being black in Indiana didn’t help.

Here’s an interesting read.

I loled. Sick I know but damn that's funny

Not the punch, but the fact he will openly say **** like that. So again, I ask, why is he so revered today? As a boxer sure but as a person?

Yes, that's definitely an article that will change minds. From one of the jurors:

Quote:
Vahle: Right after the case was over, maybe a week, I was not comfortable with the verdict. Whether she wanted it or not, I don’t know. She was enthralled by Tyson. Like any person with a celebrity, she wanted to get to know him, go out with him. Why would any girl go up to a man’s room at 3 in the morning, or whatever time it was, without knowledge that something could happen?
Nothing like straight-up victim blaming.

wasn’t the nba dunk contest the same night?

I guess I could look, but I’ve sworn for so long that I watched both in my bedroom and cried (just a little lol, and as an 11-year old who watched and knew and participated in much more boxing than I do now) as I switched over to the dunk contest. got over it by recreating the dunks on my 6ft tall need hoop. be kinda weird if I was remembering wrong that whole time. maybe it was after the dunk contest, I dunno.

6 years later, I got to interview him on my hs’s morning news show. got to show him around and whatnot, **** was crazy. pretty sure I’ve said this before, but I walked in towards the end of my history class and my teacher yelled “where have YOU been?”

“hanging out with Mike Tyson”

“you’re so full of it, get your butt d...”

*Mike Tyson walks in behind me*

god mode lol.

still have the video on vhs in one of my gun safes. lemme see if I can find a screenshot I remember having somewhere...

I think the point was, it was pretty well known at the time that it was a 50/50 case with virtually no evidence to prove or disprove consent or not. I know it’s crazy to think this, but it is possible to be both black and innocent.

Well, sadly quite a few rape cases are like that.

I thought of that but don't buy it. Foreman was slow as Christmas and Tyson was way quicker and thus way more power shots gonna land. I don't underrate Ali's chin at all, it was world-class. The few times he went down, even to Frazier with perfect hook across chin in 15th round, he went down like a sack of potatoes and, incredibly, was up at the count of one. Same thing with other flash knockdowns in career. Same thing with Foreman ... stood up to it. But Tyson was way more dangerous to Ali than Foreman.

In regards to Tyson vs Ali, I’d say if Ali made it thru the first 3 rounds he wins the fight.

Tyson peak wasn't a fader at all, like Foreman. You get through a few rounds he's not the same was more a Foreman thing, not Tyson. Just saying.

One thing that always bugged me about the Tyson rape charge was that 2 of the 3 counts were just routine sodomy laws. Until a SCOTUS case I forget the name of, prosecutors could technically bust anyone for in a lot of states for having oral sex with their wife.

But instead they just saved it for when they want to pile on - same as charging OJ with kidnapping for telling some dude to get in the bathroom.

Did the documentary provide any proof Douglas 42-1? I've seen that number repeated many times over the years and it's always struck me as a urban myth - much likelier Tyson was 1/42 and Douglas like 15/1. Even the 9-10 fighters brought it to make the 5-0 prospect look good don't get to 42/1 and Douglas was a top ten fighter.

Yeah they had the guy who booked it on there explaining that he just kept bumping it up to get Douglas money and 42-1 is where it landed.

Pretty sure. I found this. https://www.indianapolismonthly.com/...on-rape-trial/

Quote:
The trial promised to be unusually graphic, since the ex-champ was charged with sexual acts not usually discussed in everyday conversation, including oral sex and the use of the finger to stimulate arousal. It could all be very embarrassing to both Tyson and Washington.
I feel pretty sure he got two years for rape and two years for the other sodomy charges.

Quote:
At sentencing, Gifford imposed 10 years (four suspended) for each of the three counts, all to be served concurrently; plus the maximum $30,000 fine. With six years to serve, Tyson could be released in three years with good behavior (though he would continue on probation).
I don't know if you could technically go to jail for 2 years for finger-banging your girlfriend.

Ali beating Foreman was straightforward, so long as you don't mind getting your midsection punished and getting permanent damage in the process.

But with Douglas Ali would not have a path to victory. Douglas had superior conditioning, longer reach, a more powerful jab, tremendous accuracy, and a solid fight plan that was basically unbeatable by any other human that night.

Tyson probably had as good a chance with his style as anybody else. Get inside and land some lightning fast punches, which he did but it was not enough.

I feel like because of his ****ed up personality and extracurricular stuff, Tyson isn’t often given his due as the truly transcendental talent he was at his sport. You could argue that in his time he was as far ahead of his peers as Tiger Woods was in 2000 or Federer in 2005.

Tyson doesn't get credit because HW boxing was dog**** during the time Tyson ruled it. It's not entirely his fault depending on how you view his criminal issues and conviction but his resume is pretty awful and post-jail, he lost every major fight against a top-tier opponent.

I'm loving 42-1 so far. I never knew anything about Buster's past.

I can't watch this stuff on work nights or I get too wound up and can't sleep.
