I remember when Technicolor was spending a lot of money trying to create a social media platform. Yeah that Technicolor. It's about like that.

ESPN makes like 5x more off cable than any other entity except maybe HBO. No one gets ****ed harder by cord cutters than ESPN. Doesn't help that most 20-something dudes would rather watch twitch anyway.

Yeah the NFL isn't the only sports league to be losing spectators either. Sports as an institution is starting to fail. None of my (ten year old) kids friends watch or play any sports.

I'm super pumped for the Buster Douglass episode coming up - 42-1.

your kid and his/her friends are the exceptions, not the norm. sports as a whole are thriving as much as ever.

There's a great book about him called "The Last Great Fight" or something along those lines. Fantastic read.

The thing about Buster that irks me is he was actually a VERY talented fighter. Had trouble with focus/discipline but physically he had the tools to be as good as any heavyweight fighter.

Yeah this seems weird. Everyone I know in LA or KC with kids - the kid plays at least a couple sports until they hit jr. high or so - when they can decide for themselves if they want to keep going with anything or try something new.

I was a broke college student when that fight happened. For whatever reason I decided to buy HBO for one month just to see the fight - which everyone expected to be another blowout.

Before the Tyson/Biggs fight my buddy was going around saying he had a good feeling about Biggs. After the fight, "You got a good feeling about Biggs?" became his nickname basically for many many years.

We weren't particularly rooting for Douglass. It was more fun to guess how many seconds the next tomato can would last. When Tyson got knocked down we were stunned. When was fumbling around for his mouthpiece we all started jumping up and down and yelling. It was such an inconceivable moment.

I guess helmet catch would be the closest thing I can think of in modern times. Or Mississippi St. beating the UCONN women is probably closer but w/o quite the scope.

That one was exceptionally long compared to others.

You have to beat the count, not the clock.

Every ref counts differently. So long as it's the same pace for each fighter, then it is what it is.

That's probably why he became undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

It's hard to make an argument that he underachieved in his career.

Amazing the punishment Tyson took in that fight before going down. At least 100 crisp shots to the head, many very heavy. He didn't bring his aggression but he brought his jaw. How many power shots did Buster land ... did they even have that stat then?? He stunned Tyson in the first round then kept pounding him with very sharp punches for 10 rounds and he finally went down to a great combo.
