Welcome ****ers.

***Here are the rules and guidelines, read them over***

You are a video game developer. Your goal to "win" this draft is to have a diverse selection of high quality games. Some of them might have been massive sellers, some of them might have been underrated, some of them might have had major impact, whatever looks good when your selection process is done...I have a feeling the people will know. Resisting the urge to take your next favorite game will be appreciated and recognized.

When you select the game, you get the game when it is released. This leads to everyone judging the game fairly based on the competition at the time. If you select an older game and someone argues that it does not hold up well, then be prepared to argue that point because it is valid.

To make it so people will be forced to choose games that other people will want to choose, there's going to be "eras". You will need to draft at least ONE game from each era from the following.

The NES/Master System era
The SNES/Genesis era
The N64/Saturn/PSX Era
The GameCube/Dreamcast/PS2/Xbox era
The Wii/PS3/Xbox360 era
The PC era (starting in 1980)

You will be allowed to skip an era of your choice. Know nothing about PC games? Then don't take one. Simple. If you want to take a game from Virtual Boy, the Jaguar...or any other of those crappy systems...then please post details giving me the idea that the system you chose it from was in competition with the other ones from that era.

NO PORTS unless the port is within 60 days of the original NORTH AMERICAN release date (just going to pretend Japan does not exist for the purposes of this draft). I'm making this rule because some ports released on other systems do indeed become the definitive version of that game.

ONLY ONE sports franchise in the series can be selected. If someone drafts "Old Fat Guy Franchise 1996", then it's over. You can draft an alternate sports franchise but not one with the same name.

Sequels are fine. Treat them as individual games. The idea is you are a free lance developer. If you make a sequel that's better the original who someone else already selected...it should be eligible.

ONLY ONE incarnation of the same game per era. This applies to certain fighting games and to certain MUSIC games. When someone selects one of these games...I will let everyone know to not draft another game from that franchise.

No handheld games. Most people don't play handhelds. Most people won't care when you select Pokemon and claim it's the most perfect game ever created. We can do a handheld mini draft afterward if people want to.

NO compilation games. You cannot sneak in what you are thinking to try and sneak in.

Here are the participants and this is also the draft order.

1 - rmthawk64
2 - Assani Fisher
3 - Eurotrash and Anacardo
4 - Dar0
5 - BiiiiigChips
6 - Chilltown

9 - Dr Zoidberg
10 - Mittens

15 - Jack Bando
16 - diskoteque
17 - aejones

Apparently, nothing I can do there bro lol.

This was suppose to start tomorrow but figured I could get some of the legwork done today. Draft doesn't really start until hawk picks anyway. It's a soft clock until then. Probably throughout the first round actually, where the most important picks will take place.

Chilly with regards to the creation date of a game your rules are unclear. Are we getting the game at the time it was created or now? It seems like you meant now but you said its "when its released" bit followed it up with the idea of a game not holding IP well being a fair point. Those two don't mesh

When it was created yes. If you draft x game in 1991, then yes you get recognition for making that game in 1991. But it's also been 20 years since then, some games get surpassed and that should factor into the equation as well.

Not holding up just means buyer beware. Happens with movies too. Was the **** when released, now, not so much.

can we mention undrafted games? seems discussion will be hindered if has cannot

Nah mentioning undrafteds is just a SE fopa.

Like I said, I made this thread to get it out the way. Its boxing day, not many peeps around. Once we get the first pick then its on like UNDRAFTED.

I let hawk know he's up. I think he'll put something in soon. Have a little faith. I don't mind if this is a slightly slower paced draft too, the discussion should be money.

I think not having an arcade game category is a mistake.

They're just a unique experience compared to console games. You are out in public. You are standing up usually. Became largely irrelevant.

Why should they be in here?

Just my opinion, but I think some of the early arcade games are still some of the best.

Not that much different. Not many people play them enough to warrant serious discussion. Same with handhelds. We all played Tet but how many have played secret gems like Advance Wars?

Have you seen any of those videos where hot chicks play the Wii in revealing outfits? Those are pretty good.

Shuffleboard and darts are fun too, but they aren't draftable. Clearly there are way more similarities between PC and consoles than either one and arcade games.

OTOH, I have no problem if chilltown allows to merge PC and arcade into 1 category. If people want to tard up the draft with awful pics I'm all for it.

I'm really only thrilled about 7 that are imo clear first-rounders, that I can think of at the moment. Hopefully one of them slips to 13.

I asked about this before, but is it considered ethical to consult internet "top 100" lists etc.? I haven't done it yet because it feels wrong. Obviously I'm not talking about using a list verbatim, just as reminders of games that have slipped my mind.

I am going to use them somewhat. They are like advanced stats for this draft.

Seriously, you aren't going to find two of these that really agree. Hell, even when a site like gamefaqs does these every year or so there is shifting. Use them all you want, there are a ton of great games out there.
