a guaranteed goal every game (providing this is in an elite league)= superstar status even if he is workshy.
media/general public would probably watch this imaginary goal machine and think to themselves "how many goals per game could this guy score and how much better could he be, if he really put some effort in"
see Ian Rush, Pippo Inzaghi and Gary Lineker, they all made a name for themselves without the guaranteed goal per game.
