Right you are, it was his son, who was a director. He should have been promoted, or knighted in the New Year's Honours List.

"I don't see Spurs making top 4 again" is a pretty ironclad argument.

You'd think Pool are the team full of young players improving an gelled together while all of Spurs' hopes are placed upon two extremely injury prone players and a 30 year old out of form captain.

The season hasn't started, he still has huge hopes. They'll be so far out by the Jan window though.

SPurs need to make additions to their squad to stand a chance.

Lots of teams need to buy players. Spurs need one thing mainly.

If we can splash some quick cash before the end of the transfer window we should definitely be top 4 contenders. Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Spurs... something will have to give. I don't see Spurs making top 4 again this year, but that still leaves 5 contenders. Even Aston Villa and Everton have quite strong squads, although I doubt either will be in reach of top 4 at any point.
Can't see them throwing around some cash at the end of the window and buying what you need. Not enough time imo, plus no CL footy. Don't blame you for being optimistic though.

Careful, Spurs came 5th twice then spent most of the next season in the relegation zone.

[ ] next season

There is nothing to be careful about in my post, all I'm pointing out is the ridiculousness of a Pool fan thinking Spurs have no shot and it's just a five horse race.
08-03-2010 , 03:14 PM
spurs are pretty huge dogs to get 4th again thats for sure
08-03-2010 , 03:27 PM
3rd clearly much more likely.
08-03-2010 , 03:31 PM
nothing against Spurs, but i think Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd are dead certs for 1,2,3*. which leaves Liverpool, City, Spurs and to a lesser extent Everton and Villa, fighting for 4th. it's going to be tough.

*not in that order
08-03-2010 , 03:35 PM
I agree it's going to be tough. The point is it's going to be just as tough for Liverpool.

Disagree with third being a near certainy and I think it will be up for grabs for most of the season just like 4th. Wouldn't be surprised if 4/5 clubs were reasonably battling for those two spots.
08-03-2010 , 03:38 PM
IMO Spurs can finish anywhere from 3rd to maybe 6th/7th with the squad they have right now and based on transfers. 3rd and 7th seem the most unlikely though. I feel like its really hard to call spots this season as City are a big question mark and Liverpool have a manager that I really respect and feel will do a good job there. The current top 4 have a myriad of issues as well.

Ya i can't work that one out either we certainly havn't got weaker over the summer.
I think our players can only get better they're all young.. it's upto City Liverpool Everton Villa too improve... i'm not too worried although i expect Liverpool to improve how can they not though?
08-03-2010 , 03:54 PM
i think the idea is that Liverpool probably underachieved last season and Spurs probably overachieved last season.
08-03-2010 , 03:56 PM
About the one thing I would be primarily worried about is the striker situation. An injury to the GOAT or Defoe and I can see them struggling for goals. Need another striker imo. Still thing you guys could use another CB too with all the injury issues to ledley and woodgate.

Yeah I think there is some truth to this. But Spurs ran bad with injuries somewhat, just like Pool. I think the level to which Pool underachieved is much greater than the level to which Spurs overachieved.

Getting stronger or weaker is a relative thing. You might not have got weaker but King's knees are a year older and City have spunked mega bazillions. I have no idea where you'll end up, at a guess it won't be in the top four.

Just compare and contrast the relevent strengths of the subs bench when we played them.
I think we got what we deserved our squad was stronger imo

Spurs must be waiting on the CL thing to work out before they go splashing some cash. I think they need some additions if they want to compete on all fronts

Meh Hoop King hardly played tbh sure he's quality and all.............. ahhh who knows we will see i'm certainly not sticking my neck out just yet

Should be interesting tho

A couple of injuries for Chelsea/ManU and the league could be a 7 horse race, like serie A back in the day! At least for a while.

I would guess the odds for Spurs coming 4th are very similar to their odds for coming 7th. Any lines on that?
