Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs project is a magnificent act of misdirection
There is no shame in losing to the champions and Tottenham manager has made the same failure taste much better

The open-top bus parade begins at Monday lunchtime. Thousands of fans are expected to line the streets to pay tribute to Ange Postecoglou and his team as they wind their way down the High Road, before a civic reception at Tottenham town hall. There, captain Son Heung-min will end 16 long years of silverware famine by hoisting aloft the Denying Arsenal The League Trophy, and frankly few men have done more to earn it.

Nobody is exactly *covering* themselves in glory here. Why does football turn everyone into puerile bellends?

Some of them are puerile bellends in other threads too.

I mean, it's football and the internet - IDK what your expectations for behaviour are, but wherever your bar is set I'd be surprised if you haven't limbo'd under it a few times, along with everyone else ITT.

If you can't laugh at your rivals' misfortunes a chunk of what people enjoy about football is gone.

Arteta inherited a team that finished 5th the season before, was 8th when Emery was binned, ended in 8th, then finished 8th again the next season. The changes you've said took several years and several hundred million pounds in transfers to happen, you've written off Ange after one.

And Spurs were certainly rosy after Conte got sacked and they lost their best player.

Can you guess Arse's goal difference after 37 games when they finished 5th two seasons ago?

They were slipping down the table and fudging games to scrape wins and draws, due to the problems I mentioned that I'm not going to type out all over again and also due to Emery being a bad fit for a rebuild, which took not only years and money but also courage to tell expensive big name players they weren't performing and to drop then sell them or in some cases terminate their contracts.

Those problems don't seem to exist at Sours and with their huge revenues they should have a significantly easier job of rebuilding with much less surgery required in the dressing room and at board/senior manager level. Like I said, you can't really compare the two situations.

Yes but the foundations have been wrong for decades. As long as I can remember it's been a case of "next year will be our year", but of course it never came, forever in the shadow of a much larger more successful club a couple of miles away.

imo they should invest a lot more in the youth programme because their potential catchment area is huge, much larger than Arse's who have to invest a lot of resources in checking out other clubs' youth talents.

Arsenal didn't have huge revenues? The transformation has been fantastic and they did have quite a bit of deadweight to ship out, but again - it took them several years and several hundred million pounds to do so.

I think I've typed lolLevy more than anything else in these threads over the years so I'm familiar with how poorly they've handled things from a board/owner level. It's been one season where they've replaced half the starting lineup and shifted younger (average starting age by minutes played is almost two years younger than last season).

It could just be a case of 'here we go again' but after one year of Arteta at the helm you could have said the same thing.

This is what I would describe as a "creative" analysis of the situation at Spurs.

I don't get the comparison unless you think there's a similar amount of restructuring and firing needed, which doesn't seem right because a) it was only what, six or so years ago that numerous season ticket holders I worked with were saying they were going to win the league under the same Lewis/Levy control, and b) I'm not aware of a clique of senior and toxic players trying to stir up dissent in the dressing room which is traumatic and time-consuming for a club and team to deal with and inevitably takes its short term toll on results.

I'd like to hear your take on it given you were presumably cock a hoop for a couple of seasons under the same structure when they were riding high briefly.

Theres gonna be a vote on scrapping VAR in the Premier League.

It's not VAR that's the problem imo, it's the officials using it. I do think the version used in the Champions League seems better, especially with the semi automated offside.

Bin VAR and go back to the standards that fits the English refs' competence.

Bin the English refs. They are very clearly the root source of the problem.

Performing so badly in a normal job is usually HR and disciplinaries etc.

Yeah it is the officials that are the problem. With no VAR Everton still wouldn't get a pen for a blatant handball by City, the ref would just claim not to have seen it. With VAR at least its clearly corrupt for all to see.

The offside decisions need automated though, I think that was supposed to be coming in anyway.

I don't think most people think it is corrupt, that's the problem. Corruption is something for other leagues like Italy, Spain and even Germany, never England.
