Its not a line when you have 3-4 people defending one person. His touches o/u in the match would be like 8.5.

Lol no. I reckon they have some kid in their academy too that makes 3 of the top 10.

If this Haaland guy is as good as LFC says he is prob gonna score at least 50 maybe 100 goals this season.

Lol.

I mean, first of all you left off both the golden boot winners.

Secondly, even from Spurs Deki and Richarlison are arguably better than Jesus too.

if Jesus were still warming the bench at City, he doesn't scrape the top 10. However, even before he's kicked a ball in anger for Arse, he's in the same bracket as Kane and Haaland

Amazing.

I dont consider Richarlison a 9. He played there when DCL went down, but he's a wide forward imo. I'd have Richarlison over Martinelli as a winger, would take Nketiah as a 9.

I've said I expect Jesus to get 10-12 goals and not like 20, but he had a 21 xG league season not on pens. Only Kane and Salah have got 20+ non pen xG in the league last 5 years. That's it! (Aguero did get it a little further back)

As has been noted to Gramuel, Son and Salah aren't #9s.

10-12 goals makes him a top 5 forward in the PL?

Jesus isn't a pure 9 either, at least according to Fbref.

Gabriel Jesus

Some amazing mental gymnastics on display here just because he's pulled an Arsenal shirt on.

It's more that there just aren't a ton of great #9s. If you want to say Havertz is better, fine, dude is a good player. I didn't include Richarlison/Rashford as I dont think they will play as 9s much. They're both solid players who can be better than Jesus.

But who else are you taking over him? Firmino?

This conversation reminds me of that video where a couple of the Japan national team players walked down the pitch at will against literally hundreds of schoolkids

Haaland, Kane, Vardy and Ronaldo are miles ahead of Jesus as a number 9. Ronaldo and Kane are undisputed world class, Haaland likely is too and you can't argue with Vardy's PL record.

If you're just arbitrarily making a "Top 5" there are like 20 players who you can argue belong there instead of Jesus. Son is miles ahead based on his PL record and when he has played as a 9 in Kane's absense.

If Jesus hits 20 a season for the next 3 seasons, you can start to put him in that class. And to be fair, I think he has a chance of being that good.

However, he also has a chance of being the next Werner.

Jesus got terribly overrated real quick. Why can't we be happy that we got a decent striker in and hope he can be part of such conversations in the future?

Because it's 4 on 1?

Your original suggestion was maybe two and a keeper, so it could even be like 7 vs 1 if they just have to defend the box like you said

You've turned this into a semantics exercise. If you're excluding all the best goal scorers in the league because "they're not true #9s" then there just aren't a lot of great 9s in the league so Jesus being in the top 10 is pretty meaningless.

Yeah can also argue that Kane isn't a true 9 too any more, as he basically plays deeper/as a 10 nowadays/Spurs don't play with a 9.

If we continue to exclude people from the conversation it won't take too much effort to get Jesus to the top of the mountain. Full Rio.

My apologies.

This also begs the question. How many true first choice #9s are there in the league? Is it posisble that Nketiah being in the top 10 doesn't even put him in the top half of #9s in the league?

I mean it's going to depend on your definition, even calling Ronaldo or Kane a "true 9" might be a stretch.

Any list including Jesus alongside Kane, Ronaldo and Haaland is a stretch.

You're right it's laughable Ronaldo still on that list.

Only slightly kidding, but talking about pure striker rankings is dumb the games too fluid and it turns into a semantics argument of who qualifies as a pure striker.

Jesus is really good and has some outcomes where he's actually world class. his worst case performance scenario where he gets less chances than at city and he's actually a below average finisher we still have a really good player. His baseline for production is good and has a ton of other positives so there's no scenario where he's getting games and we're worse off on the position than last year.

Eddie has some promising underlying numbers but need a way larger sample size to start talking about him as a top player. I am cautiously optimistic about him, but ya need to see more of him over a consistent stretch.
