With hindsite pretty clear issues with emery arsenal squad no? Bellerin and kolasanic not exactly great players. Bellerin looked finished after that injury (can't remember when it was though)... Terreira (sp) and xhaka feel a worse midfield than kamara and Luiz would be.

Issues with ozil and auba. Pepe is a flop.

Then there's lolmustafi.

Then you had to follow wenger and needed to be top 4 still. Took arteta few years and complete change in transfers to work.

Really excited after watching that JLA YouTube video in how villa could set up. Think we almost got the perfect side for his tactics. He will live or die depending on what he does with Mcginn though. If he's a nonstop starter then we're fkd.

Wouldn't say any of this is wrong.

A big problem was that after a year of Emery we had no discernable build up, style of play or tactics.

Ya the 25 games unbeaten was serious play bad get there stuff and anyone looking under the hood was screaming this isn't good at the top of their lungs. Then hey they choked away t4 and got stomped by Chelsea shocker.

I think emery threw out his philosophy after a couple bad results immediately and it was just downhill from there. He strikes me as someone more suited to punch above his weight at a mid tier club, which theoretically should be villa. Villa has some talent too so like turning them into a top half club with some deep conference league runs/European league appearances is prob their ceiling... Which isn't bad!

I’ve just been watching stones and Akanji the first 10 minutes because I was curious what pep was doing there. It is quite bizarre. Stones is nominally RB, but comes inside in a DM position next to Rodri in possession. Akanji then sometimes overlaps. Whatever the plan is, they probably aren’t doing it quite right cuz like three times already they have been standing like 4 feet apart.

Feel like Haaland could have had a brace if he was playing, a lot of floated crosses that would be far more threatening if they were aimed at the 6'5 guy rather than the 5'8 guys.

I get irrationally tilted that nobody on city is allowed to play crosses except KdB. I get that he is prob the best itw at it, but I feel like it is fair for someone else to do it on occasion. Their attack today has been sideways passes until KdB eventually knocks one in to no one. Some days this would have worked from Leicester, but fk was too good so too bad.
