Ok everybody knows the drill. Unfortunately I've not had the time to do as much of an in-depth job as sixfour did last year but we were in danger of the season starting with no new thread!
Last season started fun but City running away with it and players' legs giving out in the second half (i.e. covidball) meant it ended it a bit of a whimper.
- Leicester managed last day heartbreak again to miss out on the champions league
- Leeds had a really solid first season and were incredibly fun to watch
- Brighton managed a historically under EV xg season. Either they got incredibly unlucky or it's probably time to stop rolling out Wellbeck.
Memorable moments:
Eric Dier needing a **** mid-game
Sean Dyche continues to take mushrooms before his press conferences
And last but not least, six teams try to break away to form a European super league, which, erm, did not go down well with the fans.
Looking ahead, the pre-season (as of 7th August on betfair exchange) odds for the title are as follows:
City 8/11
Chelsea 11/2
Liverpool 7/1
United 9.5/1
Spurs 64/1
Arse 69/1
As usual, the new boys are the favourites for relegation:
Norwich 20/21
Watford evs
Brentford 8/5
With the following contenders behind them:
Burnley 11/5
Newcastle 3/1
Southampton 4/1
Wolves 11/2
So far we've had three big transfers in the off season.
Many City triggered a £100m release clause to sign Jack Grealish:
Chelsea and Inter appear to have today agreed a €115m fee for Romelu Lukaku after an elite season in Serie A last year.
And Man United finally complete the signing of Jadon Sancho after years of lowballing Dortmund and being surprised when their advances were rebuffed.
As the season starts, fans will be considering such questions as:
- Will Liverpool be able to bounce back after a disappointing season with many injury frustrations?
- Will analytics darlings Brentford be able find a firm footing in the PL?
- Who will be the team to beat Southampton 9-0 this year?
