Announce Conte

Fair play Spurs if they do get Conte. Kane surely stays.

He will fall out with everyone because he wants to sign every man and his dog but there no denying he’s right up there.

It's a good move for Spurs. They don't have a big window, they need to win now with the makeup of their squad.

If I was Conte I'd rather have stayed at Inter though. You just won the league and will be in the CL.

I think this particular window has gone unless Kane stays. Fabio Paratici is apparently coming as DoF with Conte, and it's vital we spend well if Kane goes. We also have a significant amount of deadwood to shift, so there may be £300m to spend, maybe more. This is the equivalent of oil money in the current market, and if spent well can lay significant long-term foundations.

Looks like Poch has been enjoying French cuisine.

Never heard a good argument as to why “virtue signalling” is a bad thing btw. Doing something positive and MAKING SURE PEOPLE SEE YOU DOING IT seems ok to me. Could often be even better than doing it in secret!

Facebook friend of mine decided to fly to Africa for two weeks to help build a school. Put aside for the moment that she crowdfunded the whole £3k, but she's 5 foot 2, is pale, blonde and has arthritis (which we also get frequent updates about). The whole thing was before criticism of "white saviours" was a thing, and of course we got almost hourly updates of her taking lots of photos with black kids, but not many of her actually doing any work.

On the other hand, three grand would have employed a local skilled worker for 5 years (average wage at the time was £50 a month for a skilled worker), never mind other issues like carbon footprint.

Virtue signalling is what it is. I don't disagree that sometimes it can be positive, but on the other hand it's not unreasonable to question the motives of those involved, and the consequences of their actions.

LO: I don't think anyone has any objection to people that do something positive and being visible. The objection is to virtuous words rather instead of deeds.

I'm supportive of taking the knee (and any athlete's right to protest), but when black footballers (like Zaha and Rudiger) are saying that it's piecemeal and not actually tackling the root of the issue, that does make me consider that it may be focusing on the wrong issues.

There will always be try hard pretentious individuals especially at a certain age/life phase.

It was true way back when I was young and its just as but no more so true now.

The difference is that "virtue signalling" has been politicised by the right in the "culture war" to enable it to dismiss the actions, view points and attitudes of the many, based on the actions of the few.

Which is why anecdotes will always be used to defend the accusation of "virtue signalling".

If anyone I know does anything "virtuous", unless they do it at CIA levels of secrecy and stealth, the usual gammon suspects will be charging out it to accuse said activity of signalling.

Its ridiculous.

Problem is that the biggest or at least loudest critics of virtue signalling aren't mad that there's only words rather than deeds, they're afraid that virtuous words might lead to more widespread virtuous views.

Yes, that's 100% correct but that doesn't mean that there's nothing wrong with virtue signalling.

Anyway, given that I was the one that suggested we don't get into this last night I will apologise profusely recuse myself from the conversation.

Ha, sorry for dredging it up. As always I’m pretty much in agreement with JoeJoe.

Anyway, MOYES. If Big Dunc doesn’t just take the job and refuse to leave, surely MOYES is the saviour we need.

Sorry LO, Moyes is now a cor blimey type that drinks lager and will be having all of his grandchildren born within earshot of the Bow Bells. He won't want to be returning north as he fears your street urchins and the prospect of finding his car resting on bricks before he goes to work in the morning.

This is why I think it was a big mistake to let Poch go.

Money? The I TOLD YOU SO aspect when talking to Levy? Idk, but apparently he was interested and even told PSG he wants to go, which is kind of a dick move after a single season imo.

I'm not sure it was, but I don't have all the information. However, Levy's willingness to rehire Poche does not mean it was necessarily a mistake to fire him in the first place. As Joe points out, both decisions can be correct if judged purely on the available evidence at the time of making the decision.

I kind of disagree that Spurs “win now” window is still alive atm, but it certainly was when Poch was sacked. As shocking and cold as it seemed, I can’t criticize Levy too much for deciding that action was needed. They were 14th and looking very bad.

Tell me about it. Missus and I are looking right now. The only two houses we were interested in were sold within 24 hours.

Feel free to share any tips. I've read a few online blogs that suggest people are making offers immediately when a house comes up without viewing. Crazy.

The problem with taking a knee is that it hasn't changed anything. Any awareness it was supposed to raise has long since been raised and those who still see it as 'doing their bit' should probably find a new bit to do. Something that might actually make a difference.
It's certainly not virtue signalling as it's not signalling anything other than, perhaps, routine in that it's now the final stage of the pre match warmup.

It certainly didn't come as a surprise when I learned that some people now think it's a protest against police brutality as 'it's what that cop did to George Floyd'.

Having bought a house recently, you just kinda have to go for it even though it may feel like rushing or overcommitting

You won't get any good deal by being cute
