I don't know, maybe they could have some sort of plan when they have possession. There were a handful of times where Chelsea had possession and kind of passed it around for the sake of passing it around.

I get it, they're not as good as Liverpool but they should at least have some sort of plan besides counter down the left side.

With the amount of possession and pressure they had, and our defence, a mistake = goal/card was inevitable.

Not saying we should not counter attack, but we were doing a horrible job of it.

The plan was to play compact because opening up would be suicide - and it worked fine until the red. Without that sending off I'm sure CHO would've come on in the second half and we'd have tried to play more wide and with more initiative. But even speaking of initiative, it's ridiculous to say that we didn't try to do anything with possession, it got much better as the half went on and Liverpool took the foot off the throttle a bit.

Saying it worked fine is absolutely results based thinking compounded by until the red, it worked until it did not work is not an argument.

Not really. Liverpool struggled to create any chances, we were under pressure of course but they weren't really creating clear cut chances, we were doing fine and then a major blunder cost us.

Compare that to the last time we played Liverpool where we tried to do stuff, and had 3 shots on goal at halftime, but were down 1-3. It was not the tactics that failed us.

Counter attacking depends on fast transitions, and whilst we achieved this a few times, you have to achieve it a lot more often if you want a realistic chance of winning given you are giving up so much possession.

Chelsea had numerous chances to break with fast ball but we dwelt on transition and nothing manifested and possession went back to Pool.

The blunder is a manifestation of the pressure we were under, that no chances were created was just run good. Anyone thinking Chelsea were close to evens to winning before the red is dream world.

The blunder came from nothing during the period of the half where we were under the least pressure. We had survived the first 20-25 mins of insane pressure and were getting more into the game, then the red happens. There's no way for us to not be pressed no matter what we do against Liverpool, so I'm not sure what it is you're arguing, our tactics was working as well as one could have hoped against Liverpool, obviously not to the extent that we were even with them, but we were also not getting destroyed. Liverpool were playing better, of course, they're a much better team, but we were definitely still in it - which is the opposite of how it went the last time we tried to take the game to Liverpool from the get go.
