Great post, LO. Agree with every word.

It's particularly grating when said business markets itself as being for the community and plays "You'll Never Walk Alone" before every home game.

LO, do you really believe the last bit? We know the actions of Boris and Trump have made it worse in both countries. I don't think this will lead to any epiphany. It will likely lead to more austerity and pain for those already struggling.

Fuel and travel costs make up on average around 20% of the expenses of the poorest according to the Livingwage.org, so they are not getting an effective pay cut.

It’ll require good consistent messaging from the opposition, but the simple concept of the wealthy being expected to pay more to support better pay and services for the rest of the community is going to have a once in a lifetime chance of becoming a deafening roar. Especially since a startling amount of low paid workers are suddenly armed with letters from their boss telling them how “essential” they are when they have pay slips that say otherwise.

Yeah but Agnes lives around the corner from work and still lives pay check to pay check. The 20% pay cut will hurt her and she will have to go into her stash in her knicker drawer to get through this period. The millionaire footballers who refuse to take a pay cut spend more on a night out that she earns in several months.

I really hope this happens obviously, but you're fighting against the billionaires that own the media.

Again this. I'm sure big bad football owners and rich spoiled football players pay taxes too...and a lot more than we do

It has rippling effects though doesnt it? Credit to Liverpool for being sustainable and actually turning a decent profit while at the same time putting an excellent product on the field.

But the money will have to be made up somewhere and will effect the club in the future. Will they be able to extend Mo Salah and VVD contracts when the time comes? Will they be able to afford their transfer targets? Will fans be ok paying ~£5 more per ticket when this is all over? (We know how that ends up).

The club has to look at their potential future as well unless it was something ALL clubs were doing and a joint effort was being made together. If player salaries are cut without their permission surely that could be a breach of contract no? I agree it's a nice thing to do but I also understand it's not my money and it's easy to say other people should take less when it doesnt affect me.

Jesus Christ John Henry is rich enough that he could pay all Liverpool and Red Sox staff 100% and he wouldn't even notice. Which wouldn't probably be necessary if the rich where taxed fairly.

Wouldn't it be nice if some of the first teamers got together and said lets all take a wage reduction even 10 or 20 percent just until this is over. It would assure that Agnes, Dave, Tommy or any other lower paid employee wouldnt need government handouts. Someone like Gary Neville has done this with his hotel staff so you cant tell me John wanker henry couldn't do it too.

The scottish cup final from 2002 is on.

Really shows the difference that money over time can make some of the players the old firm had back then.

O'Neil as manager, been completely flipped around, Rogers going to Leicester.

All the plastic working class heroes demanding players take a pay cut, how much are you expecting Jacob Rees Mogg to hand over?

The point is, yes, footballers should take a wage reduction. But billionaire owners shoudnt wait for that to guarantee all lower paid employees their wage, because all of them can easily afford it.

Dave must therefore live much further away and it costs him 30% so he is going to be far better off.

Nonetheless, on average, most minimum wage workers spend 20% on travel so many will notice no difference, some will be better off and some will be worse off.

Didn't you see the edit below my post 14608? Dave rides his bike to work. Even if he has to pay for his crash helmet, waterproofs and occasional theft of his tyres (this example is in Liverpool !) it will still work out less than 30%.

I see, the capitalists are at it again. Yes certainly, 1% of the population should own 99.9 percent of the money.

So you think 875k quid per month will impact whether they can extend Mo Salah? He currently earns slightly more than that per month.

I don't know what it goes to but yes I think $875k/mo over multiple months is significant money for any business. You could say why go to overseas tours? Is it worth it? Why charge fans to go to games? Is the few million worth it? Why not make shirts $20? Is it worth it? The answer is obviously yes.

Money is going to be a lot tighter in the coming years and the teams who have the most will continue to be the best like always. You guys are so stuck in the 80s and 90s and maybe even earlier where you think these passionate superfans are growing clubs out of nothing and running them with a bunch of their buddies. in 2020 sports are a business. How are you not used to this by now? As a Liverpool fan, FSG put an incredible product on the field, one that I enjoy watching and if they happen to make money in the process good for them, as long as they aren't diminishing the product on the field which is what I ultimately pay to see.

I may be confused about UK tax low, but them using a government benefit as a business that employs a lot of people in Liverpool, a benefit I would assume they've paid into over the years and will continue to pay into (a la unemployment here) then why wouldn't they take advantage of that? And they're making up the 20% on top of that.

Somedays I just wish FSG would sell to remind all the haters of what shitty owners are really like. Some people should just stick to non-league clubs
