I work for Sky and the recent change to the Sports packages was a clear sign we were losing more and more customers each year due to less important PL games, no European football etc

Previously the only option was to pay £27.50 for the all the sports channels but now it has been reduced to £18 for just PL content or £22 for championship, La Liga and cup competitions as well.

Think it's too little too late though.

Sky seem to be gradually losing the golf majors as well which isn't the greatest marketing tactic when you've just launched a Sky Sports Golf.

I mean none of them are perfect, think I'd prefer CST overall (and probably MT over both) but when The Ashes starts this winter then all bets are off.

They've just taken the open haven't they?

If I wanted to get the basic PL Sky package (including broadband and landline), it would still cost around £65 a month regardless of how they have rejigged the package.

That compares with £30 a month for BT Sport (including broadband and landline).

**** me you Brits have it golden if you think that 65/month is expensive for a premium sports package.

They did pick up the Open from the BBC only 18 months ago but I think the PGA is now going to the BBC

Something something United will still have trouble scoring.

Trading the pga for the open seems a pretty good movie when your plan is to launch a dedicated channel.

I'm sure I read BT were buying The Masters as well.

how much do you pay and what's included?
08-01-2017 , 09:10 AM
I thought you had to get everything to get the PL package with sky?

The biggest issue is you have to pay for all the **** channels that no one watches. It’s £25 for the basic package before you can even add the sports.

First off they need to offer the sports on its on. Charge £30 for it. Free view + sports for £30 is worth it and every man and his dog would be happy with that and stop charging for HD.

More and more people are going to start cord cutting.

I’m contemplating doing it as well. The perfect set up would be:

Virgin broad band 300mb £48 PM
No phone line as no one uses house phones. Line rental is a scam.

Free view HD and streaming all content.

Right now I’ve got bt sports for free due to having an EE contract. I’d need to get a mates sky sports account and then just stream other games.

Don't have cable any more as not necessary, but when we did it came to about $140/month (depending on the month, god bless the old US of A where they just make up random "taxes and fees" depending on the month) for cable TV and internet, one up from basic, no movies, no BEin sports etc.
08-01-2017 , 09:20 AM
But you got unlimited coverage of the four main US sports? I think what people object to paying that much and getting 2/3 PL games per week, no CL etc

Nope, NFL Sunday Ticket is only on DirecTV (which isn't available in my building), so we would get TNF, SNF, one maybe 2 games on network TV (not even cable) at each of 1/4 pm on the Sunday. MNF is ESPN (which we did get).

MLB - some games are on ESPN, some on Fox etc on a Saturday. Most you need the MLB Extra Innings package (which I now get and split with a few others because baseball is the best)

NBA - no idea really, some games on network on Sunday, some on ESPN, don't care

NHL - hardly any, mostly on channels like NBC Sports Network that was part of an additional sports package that didn't bother with.

Ok. You win. It's worse in America.
08-01-2017 , 09:32 AM
Seems like yanks only get the games of their local teams plus a handful of national games per week and sport on ESPN etc

For that they pay through the nose and it's way cheaper to root for a team from another part of the country since in that case you can get these streaming services a la NFL gamepass that we euros get to use for like 100 bucks a year. But you can't use those to watch games that are on local TV which pisses everyone off

That setup clearly won't work much longer due to Internet streaming. Once TV companies go belly-up, streaming will take over and blackouts will be a thing of the past- the thing is that many people seem to expect that the streaming packages will stay at a similar price, which is super naive.

Tbf they do offer Sky sports via nowtv for £34 a month. Not sure if its decent quality though
08-01-2017 , 09:45 AM
I use now tv. Quality is decent to good as long as your missus isn't watching eastenders on the iplayer in the other room. If you are used to hd you'll prob find it unwatchable tho.

I've actually just signed up to the VIP bundle on virgin media. 85 a month for all sky sports and bt sports in hd. Their broadband is the best in my area too.(300 Mbps in this deal). Was already paying ~68 for a lot less so it was a no brainer really.

Yea but who really cares about teams other than your local team? Like you literally get every single game of your local team for "free" (no additional cost). If you're a sports addict and have money to spare than you can buy the season packages. The MLB package is by far the best quality and it's amazingly the cheapest. They always have a deal for Father's day (less than halfway through the season) for like $40 for the rest of the season.

NFL Sunday Ticket is a joke and no one should buy it. Everyone other than Direct TV you can get Red Zone for $5/mo which is elite because fantasy is all that matters in the NFL outside of your local team which always on free basic cable.

NBA package is horrendous quality online and probably overpriced. I have 3 local NBA teams in my viewing area though so that + TNT, TBS, ESPN games gives me no real reason to get it.

NO idea about LOL hockey.

LOL MLS Super Cheap too obvs

Nice.
We have Cina, sl8a, TP and LFC.
I was going for £20 and 3 more players.
What's the standard pay for 8 player SNG? 95-45-20? 110-50?
