Potential downside is he gets too much playing time. As an option obviously it would be fine.

120 for me. i assume someone has at least 140. their version is just about getting exacts. really dislike it compared to the old version (now talksport). glad they don't update the league standing promptly at all.

yeah cina - that kane yellow take was extra spicey

so Spurs bidding on Martial must mean he's available, just a question of price .... right?

Really have no idea the hell Everton is buying Siggy for, much less for 50m or whatever. Everything he does, Rooney does better. Rooney had all day on the ball yesterday and was spraying passes, corners, taking free kicks, etc.

They're already super slow as it is ...... they need to buy players that have pace, not a worse Rooney.

So what I'm saying is Everton should buy Martial lol

Cant see Martial being available for anything less than £80m given his age, potential and whacky market

IDK I think £60m gets it done if he's available, which you have to think he might be.

Finally caught up on both the weekend's games & the thread.

So Liverpool sorted that whole Pool/ManU as my primary team dilemma realllllll fast.

Wtf is up with this new kit? The white at the top of the socks is atrocious & I can't get on board with that.

Also Mignolet? Moar like Laidolet. Try being less bad @ your job.

I will still root for them usually probably, but meh.

Burnley/Chelsea was awesome on so many levels from the cards to the packs of Chelsea players traversing angrily in the direction of the ref to the furious comeback that was only thwarted by Morata deciding against allowing a teammate to score a goal he didn't assist on. On another note, they might want to start that guy. He seems pretty good.

Man City game was crazy boring. Pep clearly bet the 1st half under. They should probably play more of their good players & less of their bad ones.

I was wondering who this Jonjo guy who I heard so much about in PEEHS entries was, & I can see that was just Jonjo being Jonjo. Jonjo Jonjo Jonjo Jonjo Jonjo. That game was also pretty boring.

So then my defacto #1 team is finally playing. Kit's looking right. Goalkeeper hair looking right. Old Trafford jumping. Lineup looking reasonable. No Failini. Rooney has moved on to bluer pastures. Felt good, even before they beat a bunch of Ham & Eggers.

So yup, I am officially ManUniteding. Happy week 1.

My favorite thread things: 72o's unprecedented levels of MAD...ok that's the whole list. Enjoyed lots of other things, but I can't put anything else on that level.

Yeah I’m not a huge fan of it either to be honest.

No extra for the draw, no extra for the correct gd and only one week at a time.

Garth Crooks gonna Garth Crooks

What this game signified to me was that players such as Newton (as good as he was) could not play in the modern era because of the inflexibility of referees such as Craig Pawson, who seem incapable of recognising a mistimed tackle as opposed to a dangerous one. Frankly, I've seen better decisions made by a Grade 4 referee on a Sunday afternoon.

Pawson couldn't possibly have played the game at any serious level, having made the decision to send off Chelsea captain Gary Cahill for what was no more than a clumsy challenge. A yellow card was all that was required.

While Pawson may be popular with his peers for appearing brave, his hubris has put Stephen Ward and all defenders at risk of an early bath because of nothing more than their impetuousness.

Is that the future?

JFC. He is much worse than Souness. Which is worthy of an award of some kind.

I had that game on in the background while spending time with the family who basically never watch football and they couldn't believe that Cahill challenge was a red. We've all gotten used to it but sending someone off for anything other than a potentially career damaging challenge still seems silly to me. I don't even remember the last time I saw someone unable to finish a game after a red card tackle. We're getting a lot of games spoiled/made a lot less interesting after tackles that really aren't that dangerous.
08-14-2017 , 07:12 AM
If this is what is needed to avoid having people taking small chances at injuring badly players then I'm more than ok with it. Eventually players will catch up to those sort of calls and there won't be as many dumb tackles that not only risk injuring players (yes, small chance but prevention > cure) but also stop the game and make it less enjoyable overall.

Wish refs would go hard in the paint like this with other things like timewasting, player pressure (just snap show a yellow to anyone complaining) and other insufferable things "ruining the game" just like those mad prices are

This is probably because the number of bad tackles has been reduced due to the tightening of rules in this area.

You could also argue that the Chelsea game was improved and made more interesting by the red card.

+1 for Icarus recommendation for a doco btw

Excellent doco (obv ran pure with content tho)

Damn, didn't get a chance to check this thread all weekend, and don't have time to check 30+ pages.

But did anyone see the argument between Carra and Redknapp after the Pool game.

Redknapp was literally obsessed over VVD coming to Liverpool and transforming that team. I think it'll take a **** load more than him...

Nice start by Spurs - didn't get to watch the game though.

I can go along with that. Maybe they could make the top six start with ten men in every game against bottom half teams as a sort of handicap system.

Agreed, although Saturday's game (and every game involving Manchester City) would have been abandoned after about twenty minutes.

I can't believe I am arguing this as someone far more lenient than most on tackles, but the line is not and should not be anything close to "a potential career ender or it's fine". Whether someone can finish the game or not shouldn't come into it. Those sort of horror tackles that take someone out of a game are worthy of long bans of 10+ games. Not be the minimum for a basic red card.
