There but for the grace of God etc.
If only Villa's previous owners had been greedy like Burnley's and not spent ****loads of money.

Overseas TV rights now to be distributed based on league position. FFS.

It's **** but it's not quite as bad as that, the current money for overseas rights is being distibuted equally as it is now but any increases will be distributed according to league position. I wonder how they got it through with a two-thirds majority needed.

Which clubs have the money-grabbing owners again?

Hey guise, got 3 days in San Francisco and 3 days in LA coming up.what are the must sees/must dos? Any restaurant suggestions would be much appreciated aswell.

There's been an 'fsg out' brigade in our support for a while which kind of astounds me given where we are now compared to when they took over.

I think they are very competent owners but I guess unless youre net spending fella like there's no tomorrow, you're just greedy owners. Football fans for the most part don't want good business men running their club, they want abromovich.

what are you into for eating/drinking in SF? I've never been to LA, but I'm usually in SF 6-8x a year

We are not seafood people but pretty much anything else goes. I enjoy all drinking establishments. Not planning restaurants/bars to visit always catches me out on holiday and we end up wasting time looking around. We are not fancy, just looking for good places fairly reasonably priced

It's quite a few years since we went to SF and Alcatraz was the stand out trip, you should try and get tickets for the nighttime tour if they're still doing it. Other than that, we spent a lot of time just wandering around the Fisherman's Wharf area. You should probably take a trip on the cable car as well.

It's a shame you don't like seafood, because SF has some of the best I've had.

I have never been to LA but SF GOAT.

Suggestions:
1) I also recommend Alcatraz. The night trip is meant to be better, but do take a coat/jumper as it can get nippy.
2) I recommend a drink at The Intercontinental Mark Hopkins cocktail bar (it was called Top of the Mark, or similar). It is very high up. You have to pay a cover to get in and it is pretty expensive, there is some live music, but the view is amazing. It's not cheap but a fantastic experience. Worth an hour of your time.
3) I wasn't too keen on Fisherman's Wharf personally.
4) TP is right, the cable car should be done.
5) We rented some bikes, rode across the Golden Gate Bridge, mooched around Sausalito and took the ferry back, which was a fun morning/afternoon.

You pretty much cannot fail to enjoy yourself there.

The package is to stream all boxing day matches and all midweek December games. Already have prime so this is pretty awesome and hopefully sets a precedent for all games during a gameweek to be available.

Thanks, will look into these. Is the bar a walk in or do you need to book a table?

perfect. I'll let others talk about the more tourist-driven stuff, but I can definitely help with food and drinks.

For beer, these are the main 3 I would recommend:

Mikeller Bar
Almanac's Tap Room (the one in the Mission, not in Oakland/Berkley)
Cellar Maker Brewing

Cocktails:

Whitechapel for gin and classic cocktails
Brass Tacks
Trick Dog
Pacific Cocktail Heaven
Smuggler's Cove (basically THE Tiki Bar around the world. Just be careful on when you go as it can get packed really fast on a Friday or Saturday)

Restaurants:

Zuni Cafe (you want the whole roasted Chicken here, trust me)
The Morris (great cocktail, spirits, and wine program along with great food)
Cotogna
The Progress (you'll need a reso for a table, but you can easily walk-in and eat at the bar)
Kin Khao (super awesome Thai)

I can pull up more recs later, but if you are able to hit a few of those while doing some touristy stuff, you'll have done a great job. At the end of the day, it's SF. You'd have to really **** up to not enjoy yourself.

quick edit: if you and the missus are into wine and are entertaining the thought of a day trip to Napa, my advice is: don't. 3 days barely scratches the surface of SF and Napa is 90 minutes-2 hours out of SF and can eat up a whole day in of itself. So, only do Napa and/or Sonoma if that is solely what you want to do or have more time than what you'll have.

double edit: you'll absolutely want to hit up some sort of Asian establishment in SF. I'd recommend more than just Kin Khao, but, I honestly don't even know where to start. There's sooooo much killer East and Southeast Asian food in SF that you almost can't go wrong with a random spot

Will remember these posts, am planning a week to ten days in the bay area/Vegas late next year

I'll second recommendations for biking to Sausalito and for Mikkeller beer bar. I'd also suggest to visit Muir woods, if you have desire to see some glorious nature. Close to SF and quite a sight.

There’s a pretty great San Francisco thread in either OOT or EDF not sure which. I’ll add that you should never leave anything in your parked car. Car break ins are an epidemic there. I only know because my rental got broken into right in front of mikkeller. Turns out it’s pretty widespread and they target tourists.

I would assume that's the EDF one, there's fairly well posted in threads for SF/LA/NYC there, possibly some other murican cities

It's funny how that I've not been to the States for over a decade, and I'm planning this one through careful budgeting and getting my cash into places where I can get a decent percentage return, whereas the last trip was funded by running hot at donkaments, how times change

though it hasn't been bumped in a while, there is a big thread on the third biggest city in the US (also one of the biggest cities in the world, js) that for some reason seems to get overlooked
