Thoughts on least bad place to hold a bank account (UK obv)? Mine (without naming names, they sponsor a major football competition) has decided that it is reasonable to increase the cost of the package on my account by 30%, while at the same time removing every useful feature except mobile phone insurance, which because I own a brick and don't have a habit of breaking it is worth about 17p yearly, and if I don't keep the package then they'll treble the cost of using an overdraft to levels that Wonga would think twice about charging - which they'll do regardless in January anyway. Would have discussed this in my local branch, but I figure this thread is better for advice on this than a hairdressers. First Direct?
sixfour, I use M&S Bank for my current account and credit card and am very happy with them. I see you can get a £100 gift card for switching, and another £100 cash if you stay a year. Don't bother with "premium" current accounts, the "extras" are generally bollocks.
Obviously Santander was by far the best place to have a current account with the 1-2-3 but I think they are severely cutting the interest or maybe already have and also the Cashback on bills. It's still probably the best mind you if interest is what you are judging on. In terms of other features **** if I know, but what I do know is my laziness at keeping the same bank account for 11 years really has to go. Especially given how ****e said bank is in basically every way and I don't even have a frigging branch to go to. Funnily enough several of my friends living over the water are the same. Keep our ****ty Irish banks out of pure laziness.
Santander's rate drops to 1.5 on Nov 1st but it's still the best rate out there coupled with the cashback (that hasn't changed).
If you're not bothered about the interest because you don't have enough of a balance, they now do a 123 Lite that's £1 instead of £5 but still has the cashback.
The cutoff point before your balance makes the full 123 worthwhile is about 3500 (average balance over the month)
Barclays mobile insurance is rubbish. You lose your phone for a couple of weeks.
Never ever base your decision on a what extras you get on bank account like phone insurance or travel insurance etc. They buy a job lot of cheap policies that are rubbish.
Why would anyone pay every month for travel insurance unless you travel every month?
Would you buy a TV from your butcher?
This speaking from someone who spent 10 years working in banks.
