Okay. That certainly isn't a really bad stance. Statistics gets a bad name because people either see people misuse data or misuse it themselves and can't recognize that properly interpreting data is absolutely essential and is unfortunately incredibly difficult. I think the watching part is somewhat overrated in this case personally. Looking at xG in a one off game is not particularly useful, mostly because of game state. Over a larger number of games it is pretty powerful, but you can't read into too much. It indicates a higher probability that someone is good or bad, but can't definitively prove it. The eye test is just the same, but probably less reliable because it is too subjective and depends on how good the individual doing the testing is (people suck).
I've just been assuming your point of view was hilarious ever since your liverpool would never have scored against burnley because reasons gambit.
