Ranieri? I guess he’s right with what he said I am very demanding of myself and I have to win to be sure of things. This is why I have won so many trophies in my career. Ranieri on the other hand has the mentality of someone who doesn’t need to win. He is almost 70 years old. He has won a Supercup and another small trophy and he is too old to change his mentality. He’s old and he hasn’t won anything.
guess which pompous about-to-be-sacked-in-humiliating-circumstances arsehole said this back in 2008. no prizes.

Is he saying Ranieri is quite the expert in failure? I need to know this before I guess

It's my worst season for a few years. I'd expect someone who has solved the game to be comfortably ahead given my poor performance so far.

There was like a 3-4 week period where everyone was aids except for massive chalk plays so everyone who thinks a little outside the box got crushed (like myself). Went from top 500 itw to like 100k. Was basically the vardy/lukaku show (I don't fault anyone for having either but they are running way above expectation and the way to win something this big is through avoiding chalk plays who over perform and nailing more contrarian plays).

If he really said this in 2008, then Rainieri was 57 at the time.

What a massive wanker.

I don't think I agree with this, but I need to know what a chalk play is first.

Chalk plays would be players that the vast majority thinks is a good play. Often times chalk plays are in fact the best plays. Good example of bad chalk plays would be Chelsea (hazard/Costa). High ownership but poor underlying numbers and ultimately rightfully haven't produced. Lukaku is an example of a chalk play that has produced, albeit slightly over expectation. The idea of "in form" often coincides with players who would be considered chalk.

Chalk forwards right now would be ighalo lukaku and vardy and general public will be hammering them as captains every week.

I've always believed fixtures >>> form (form is important but not on the way people view it conventionally) but unfortunately rotation is limited in season so it is hard to fully take advantage of fading chalk plays week in and week out.

Us being linked with him is the first I've heard of him... Can never knock Jenkins appointments anyway but glad you approve

At what moment in time are we talking about here? They had 'poor underlying numbers' at the start of the season? Or now / recently?

Pretty early on their numbers weren't looking good. Full disclosure I had hazard at the start of the season and dropped him basically by week 3 (coincided with Alexis being back fully).

Bielsa is awesome and completely bat **** insane. Full on aggro tard relentless press and attack. Is known for wearing players out though.

So Hazard would still be considered a chalk-play now, despite his being ****e all season so far? Or he was a chalk-play at the start of the season but not now? (his ownership rates will be high because of the amount of people who just pick a team then don't change or just forget about fantasy)

I'm just trying to clarify if a chalk-play is a high-rep player who hasn't been scoring points, or a low-rep player who has been scoring points, or both.
12-15-2015 , 03:16 PM
Chalk is basically just whoever is a popular play. Hazard was chalk at the start of the season and failed badly. Lukaku was chalky at the start of the season and has done well. Vardy and ighalo were not chalk at the start of the season but now are chalk as they have super high ownership. Giroud and bony would be examples of good plays that are not chalk. I think the common term for these are differentials in the season long community. I do not know of a relative term for chalk plays.

So basically it's just a vacuous Americanism?

Who the **** cares about fantasy chalk plays. We could be looking at hot photos of female Uruguayan fans
