So it looks like we'll be starting two rookie FB's and two CM's in defence this weekend. At least Varela looked really good last night and CBJ hasn't looked out of place either. Might as well just give Timothy Fosu Mensah or Alex Tuanzebe a shot at CB as well since we're at it.

Forgot about McNair. I thought Rojo was out for a while longer though? Valencia is definitely out. Underwent surgery a few weeks ago and was supposed to be out for at least 3 months.

Varela-McNair/Carrick-Blind-CBJ/Young basically our options at this point.

Varela was meh last night i.m.o, fine in duels but positional sense looked fugly

I suspect you're in the minority there based on last nights posting and commentators, but yeah I guess it's easy to overrate young players based on the more obvious actions like tackles/duels/crosses and miss/overlook the less obvious stuff like that.

I missed most of the 2nd half vs Wham but from what I can gather he looked solid there as well. Him starting a few games shouldn't be the biggest of our worries at least.
